Congratulations to Travis Peterson, who officially takes office today after 20+ years with Kapur as the City of Sheboygan Director of Public Works! The City couldn’t be in better hands, and we wish you continued success – THANK YOU for contributing so much to our growth over the past two decades!

Only Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear knows the exact reason he commissioned Kapur Regional Engineering Manager Scott Harris as a Kentucky Colonel. However, with this prestigious title given to individuals who are ready to help citizens share in Kentucky’s boundless future, we have a few guesses! A Knights of Columbus member for nearly 40 years and a Grand Knight for almost a decade, Scott routinely helps young aspiring engineers expand their knowledge and hone their skills by volunteering with numerous STEM-related organizations and events. Joining the ranks of esteemed individuals such as Muhammad Ali, Walt Disney, and Bob Dylan in receiving this honor, we are proud to have Scott as part of our team and couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this esteemed distinction!

145 years ago today Congress established the Mississippi River Commission to make recommendations in the areas of flood control, navigation, and environmental projects for the river. Kapur’s involvement with projects that support the Mississippi continues to increase, with our efforts recently helping IDOT and MoDOT build the new I-270 Chain of Rocks Bridge, as well as MoDOT’s new Chester Bridge and Don Welge Memorial Bridge, with all three now allowing thousands of cars to cross the river daily. On both sides, the I-270 loop connects many of the region's warehouses and distribution parks, ports, airports, and rail yards, and nearly 70% of the region's industrial tenants occupying large warehouse space in excess of 500,000 square feet are within 10 minutes of the interstate.

In celebrating International Women in Engineering Day, today we acknowledge the importance of gender diversity in engineering and call attention to the contributions women engineers make throughout our industry. We recognize the invaluable role they play in shaping our world, not just as innovators, but as role models for the next generation, and without them Kapur wouldn’t be able to provide the client-first services we’re renowned for! Today is National Go Skateboarding Day, established to celebrate and bring together the skate community on the longest day of the year! Kapur has been honored to be a part of the revitalization efforts of The Turf skate park over the past several months, and we can’t wait until next year when we get to commemorate this annual observance at the historic and iconic Turf!

Today marks the first day of summer, when many will start visiting Wisconsin’s 70 state parks and nature areas to enjoy hiking, boating, and the views of nature! If you happen to visit Governor Dodge State Park near Dodgeville, Mirror Lake State Park near Wisconsin Dells, or Perrot State Park just north of La Crosse, you will certainly see some of the work that Kapur completed to keep these areas pristine! At Governor Dodge, Wisconsin’s fourth largest park by area, Kapur completed the design and construction oversight for a new boat ramp for access into Twin Valley Lake. At both Mirror Lake and Perrot, Kapur completed the rehabilitation of the asphalt roadways and parking lots. Mirror Lake had drainage issues and deteriorating asphalt, so the roadway and parking lots to the beach were replaced along with improved ADA access, signing, and drainage structures. Perrot replaced over 2 miles of roadways, along with the entire concrete sidewalk and concrete pavement near the park office. With additional funding for the state parks, improvements will continue to be made statewide, and Kapur looks forward to contributing to the never-ending mission of maintaining Wisconsin’s state parks!

Thanks again to those who attended the Kapur co-sponsored benefit for The Turf skate park on Saturday. It was incredible to experience that amount of support, and we appreciate the organizers and performers for putting on the fantastic event! We look forward to seeing the final results of our contributions when the park reopens later this year!

The arrival of summer also means the arrival of our summer interns, and we’re eager to see everything our newest class will accomplish over the next several months! Kapur works diligently to provide these aspiring engineers with real-world learning opportunities, so don’t be surprised if you see them out in the field or behind the scenes, making a difference in your community!
