WHY AM I ATTENDING ILTACON’S CORPORATE LEGAL DAY? I recently met for lunch with my retired former boss, John Alber. I used to call John my “mentor” but understand now that he played a much bigger role as my career “sponsor." There is a meaningful difference.   John has been a true pioneer in the legal tech industry and was a senior executive leader of the AmLaw 100 firm where I spent the first 20 years of my career. He saw my potential and made a bet on me by making me the director of a newly created department to drive revenue through technology using an alternative staffing model. He pushed me to take risks far outside my comfort zone. John advocated for me with fellow firm leaders and convinced them I had the business acumen necessary to make our initiative successful. In return, John expected great things from me in advancing his strategic vision for the firm. All of this made me feel invested and highly motivated to perform well and help John achieve his goals; by doing so, I advanced my own career to a level I never dreamed possible.   Career sponsorship is critically important in our rapidly evolving industry. As GenAI and other technology forces accelerate systemic change in the legal landscape, sponsors play a crucial role in helping professionals navigate choppy waters. I’m grateful I had the chance to tell John how much his sponsorship has meant to my career, and the trajectory of my life.   If you’re a corporate legal professional strategizing next steps in your career, join us at ILTACON on August 14 in Nashville to talk about sponsorship, real-world problem solving, and using your superpowers to maximize your value in tomorrow’s marketplace! Please reach out to Christine Becker to reserve your spot at Corporate Legal Day! #iltacon2024 #corporatelegalday #legaltech International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) Don Knight David Cowen Abby Rosenbloom

  • Our book recommendation for July comes from Denise Ash and is “The Indisputable Existence of Santa Claus” The Mathematics of Christmas” by Hannah Fry and Dr Thomas Oléron Evans. What equations should you use to decorate the Christmas tree? Will calculations show Santa is getting steadily thinner – shimmying up and down chimneys for a whole night – or fatter – as he munches on cookies and milk in billions of houses across the world. The authors demonstrate how applied mathematics are so thoroughly interwoven into our everyday lives by explaining mathematical concepts using Christmas. As an added bonus, Dr. Hannah Fry is speaking at ILTACON next month! Thanks to Mary Nehring for coordinating this project!

  • Our friends at the Legal Marketing Association (LMA), wanted to let ILTA volunteers know that the LMA 2025 Annual Conference planning has begun and they have opened their LMA25 https://zurl.co/VAm0 . They encourage ILTA thought leaders and SMEs to submit for consideration to share their expertise with our audience and to further deepen our collaboration. They are accepting submissions now through July 22nd and their event will be April 23-25, 2025, at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC! This also will mark LMA’s 40th Anniversary, so it will be a special year. While they welcome all submissions, when thinking about your ILTA community and our domain of Technology Management they are especially interested in hearing from experts who can speak to: •Artificial Intelligence in your role as a legal marketer, including ways AI can enhance your role, pitfalls to avoid, and advanced AI case studies •Engaging and interacting with clients and prospects through social media, digital marketing, and technology •Managing large data sets and using data analytics to make smarter decisions (e.g., benchmarking, competitive intelligence, predicting behavior) •Managing continuous technological change and generating buy-in among internal stakeholders •How technology and marketing teams can work together more strategically •Best practices for integrating your technology stacks – working with your CTO, Accounting team, Conflicts, etc. – to create high-functioning systems •Best practices for using Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools to track interactions, manage client data, and personalize client communication. https://zurl.co/4fgh
