We are excited to be attending AANS this May to present on our research! Ikaasa Suri, alongside last summer’s Diversity Innovation Hub Fellow, Daniel Kwon, conducted a study to examine how prone and supine positioning of patients affects clinical measures of the lumbar and thoracic spine. Congratulations to all involved in this manuscript! #AANS2024 #AANS #spinesurgery #mountsinai

Next in our #Illuminant Spotlights, we have our Software Engineer, Enoch Omale 🏥 After working in the video game industry, and completing a master’s in Computer Science (with a focus on computer graphics and physically-based simulation), Enoch joined Illuminant in June 2023. 🛠️ His role entails leading our software R&D efforts. He is currently implementing the final pieces needed to make Illuminant’s surgical navigation device as accurate and capable as possible. 🧠 To Enoch, one of the best aspects of working at Illuminant is the team’s dynamic and how well such a small group of talented people have been able to band together and produce incredible results, learning from each other in the process. He also has loved the opportunity to apply his computer graphics knowledge, originally aimed at the visual arts, to the medical field, and the challenge that comes along with that. 🎥 Outside of the office, you can find Enoch playing soccer, watching (and reviewing) movies, or creating digital art for his Instagram account. ✨ Enoch is passionate about the impact that his efforts can have on others. He has enjoyed speaking with experts in the field to learn more about the specific needs of software in guided surgeries today, and plan research to achieve these goals.

I had the opportunity to tour the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center this week. I am absolutely astounded by their state-of-the-art facility and equipment. Truly a hidden gem in West Virginia 💎 Thank you MAMC's Director Derek Scarbro for graciously taking the time to tour us through the facility and introducing us to your talented staff. I am looking forward to how Illuminant Surgical can collaborate with the center for our rapid prototyping and manufacturing needs. #westvirginia #medicaldevice #advancedmanufacturing #marshall

Next in our #Illuminant Spotlights, we have our Hardware Development Team Lead, Brian Nguyen 🏥 After studying Mechanical Engineering and German Studies (with a brief stint in nature conservation work), Brian joined Illuminant in June 2022. 🛠️ His role entails designing, building, and working with outside suppliers to create the physical embodiment of the Illuminant surgical navigation system. Brian has also effectively managed and mentored interns, brought up Illuminant‘s in-house manufacturing workspace, and got one of his designs in the operating room during our first-in-human study at Mount Sinai Hospital. 🧠 One of Brian's favorite aspects of Illuminant has been the wide range of opportunities to delve deeper into different subjects related to the product and the business. Beyond expanding his knowledge in mechanical design, he has enjoyed learning what it takes to start a business, from how to successfully recruit talent to understanding different avenues for fundraising. 🚴♂️ Outside of the office, you can find Brian riding his bike, doing DIY home projects, or taking photos. ✨ Brian is passionate about well-designed, everyday objects and reading a diverse range of literature. He often uses these sources of inspiration in creative ways to make our product safer, easier to use, and more affordable. 💡 We are grateful to have Brian as part of our core team - until next Spotlight! Catch Brian at Photonics West 2024 today or tomorrow!
