Domestic abuse, also referred to as “domestic violence”, “intimate partner violence”, or “family violence”, is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one person to gain or maintain power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat or use of violence. HAWC offers free, confidential safety planning unique to a survivor's situation. Learn more: hawc.org/safetyplanning #HAWC #DomesticViolence #Houston #SexualAssault #SafetyPlanning

Research shows family violence increases in the wake of natural disasters, and Hurricane Beryl was no exception. HAWC has seen again and again how abusers leverage disasters to exercise increased control and coercion over the lives of survivors. https://ow.ly/B56t50SBTrq . . . #Beryl #Houston #DomesticViolence #HAWC

Research consistently shows family violence increases in the wake of natural disasters, and #HurricaneBeryl seems to be no exception. During natural disasters and the days following, #DomesticViolence survivors can be trapped inside the home with abusers due to outages and road inaccessibility, making it even more difficult for survivors to seek and access support services and resources. The increase in natural disasters in Houston means a greater need for services, awareness, education, and, ultimately, funding. Support survivors: hawc.org/donate #Beryl #SafetyPlanning #HAWC

HAWC is working overtime and pulling extra resources to support survivors during the aftermath of #HurricaneBeryl. Please consider giving to HAWC to support survivors: HAWC.org/DONATE. The isolation resulting from natural disasters, like #Beryl, makes it even more difficult for #DomesticViolence survivors to seek and access support services and resources. HAWC offers free, individualized #SafetyPlanning through our hotline and chat on our website above.
