Planetary alignment 🪐 A rare planetary will occur just before sunrise on June 3. During this solar spectacle, the orbits of Jupiter, Mercury, Uranus, Mars, Neptune and Saturn will bring the six planets to the same side of the sun. Don’t miss it! June 6. A new moon 🌑 Moonless nights are perfect for stargazing from any dark sky campsite. We’ve heard some chatter about potential aurora viewings around the new moon. This will be a surprise if it happens. June 7. Arietids meteor shower ☄️ Arietids meteor shower peaks! It’s best seen in the early hours of the morning before sunrise. You can expect to see 60 to 200 meteors per hour from a dark sky campsite. June 21. Full moon 🌕🍓 The full moon this month is affectionately known the Strawberry moon. I recently had the opportunity to represent Hipcamp at a historic gathering hosted by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable. This first ever executive forum brought together 150 CEOs and key government leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges for our $1T+ industry. I had the chance to attend meetings at the White House, speak on a panel about the power of recreation to reinvigorate rural communities, and spend time with some of my favorite people in the world. As a CEO spanning two industries (tech and outdoors), it can be tough to explain just how special the outdoor industry is. Jessica and I decided (very) late on the final night that it must be all that time outside in nature that creates leaders with such a strong commitment to their missions, giving back, and ultimately, using their businesses as vehicles to create great jobs, amazing experiences and a better future for our planet. (Great insight from Dr. Wallace J. Nichols here as well with #bluemind!) I believe deeply in the power of outdoor recreation to help solve some of the biggest challenges we're facing as a country today - from the loneliness epidemic, to bridging the urban/rural divide and resulting political polarization, to our climate/ecosystem crisis. Huge congrats and thank you to Jessica (Wahl) Turner, Chris Perkins, Whitney Potter Schwartz, and Ambreen F. Tariq. Your leadership and tireless work bringing together our industry is deeply appreciated and so important, especially right now.
