ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Nov. 8, 2023 -- HI-LEX has been recognized as a 2023 Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Innovation Award winner for its Seat Module system found on newly launched Toyota models. The innovation, which is recognized in the Process/Assembly/Enabling Technologies category, is one of eight technologies named a category winner in the annual program that honors the most innovative uses of automotive plastics. The HI-LEX Seat Module offers a patented solution to reduce components and ease assembly – adding value to seating systems – while maintaining or improving the performance of a traditional 2nd or 3rd-row seat. The key enabler of this system is the custom plastic plate that replaces brackets, clips, and zip ties in the seat. It also allows for shortened cables due to optimized holding features on the plate, with stowing capabilities for the loose ends of the cable. This bundled condition expedites assembly at the seat manufacturer, reducing takt time on the line. The plate can also hold the wire harness and ECU in the seat. These critical design features make the HI-LEX Seat Module system a more efficient way to design seats with cable content.
