Herzog's subsidiary, TransitAmerica Services, Inc. (TASI), is working with Stadler and Metrolink to test the ZEMU, North America's first zero-emission, self-powered passenger train. The ZEMU is a hybrid train that uses hydrogen and battery technology to power the train and its on-board electrical system. The only emission that comes from this train is water vapor, making it a 100% clean transit alternative. In early June, the Herzog Multi-Purpose Machine (MPM) arrived in Montana to assist with the construction along the Montana Rail Link (MRL). The MPM helps crews with various material-handling tasks along the railroad right-of-way. It supported MRL crews by drilling foundations for mast-ladder-platform signals and delivering dirt and rock. Work will continue in western Montana throughout the summer.
