Happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. Construction sites are dynamic work environments – as we work, and as others are working around us, we need to continually assess our situation and make adjustments as needed. When you’re assessing your work set-up, take your time. Look above, below, in front of, behind, and to the sides of your work area. Then, go beyond assessing just in relation to your body – look all around heavy equipment and other items in your work area to ensure there’s nothing potentially hazardous in the vicinity. Your situational awareness will not only keep you safe, but empower you to better perform your tasks as well. Happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. Stretching is important every day, regardless of the expected physical difficulty of the tasks you’re handling. By stretching, you’re warming up your muscles and increasing their flexibility and resilience. Your daily stretch routine should include a mix of both static and dynamic stretches. When stretching, pay attention to your body and how it’s feeling. Over time, you can try increasing the motion or exertion of a stretch as your muscle strength and flexibility increases. You also need to pay attention to your breathing while you stretch. Deep, steady breathing helps get oxygen to your muscles and increases blood flow. When your muscles are tense or shortened, they are more susceptible to injury. Start your workday off on the right (and safe!) foot by properly prepping your body for the job ahead. Happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. The National Safety Council recognizes June as National Safety Month, an especially good time to purposefully refocus and reflect on the fact that safety is always everyone’s responsibility. All accidents are preventable – with the correct controls, procedures, and our complete focus, we can keep ourselves and our colleagues safe. Use the STAR method – Stop, Think, Act, Review – to ensure you’re taking the time to focus on safety and effectively take the steps needed to create a safe work area. Getting home safely at the end of the day depends on all of us staying focused, communicating effectively, and acting safely at all times. Happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. With the arrival of summer weather, it’s important to shift our behaviors and attention to be prepared for the hazards of the season. Dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and heat cramps can all be caused by high temperatures and sun exposure. Know the symptoms and know what to do if you suspect you or a colleague is experiencing one of these ailments. Heat-related health issues are an area of concern that you need to take steps to prevent – but also be ready to handle – this time of year. At Harlan Electric, Safety is Life. #HarlanElectric #MYRGroup #Safety #ElectricalConstruction #ConstructionSafety

Happy Tuesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. May is Electrical Safety Month- an opportunity to remind ourselves of the importance of following every rule and procedure when working with electricity. We all have a responsibility to ourselves and our colleagues when it comes to electrical safety. To stay safe when working with electricity, always follow lockout/tagout procedures and keep the following in mind: • Adhere to “Test Before You Touch” protocols and treat all circuits as if they’re live until they’ve been tested. • Use proper electrical grounding techniques as appropriate. • Always use the proper PPE for the job you perform. This month and every month, safety must always be our top priority, making sure all crew members return home safe at the end of the day.
