We've partnered with rePurpose Global to account for any plastics used in our packaging and operations and fund removal and repurposing of an equivalent amount of nature-bound plastic waste from the environment. rePurpose facilitates programs in developing nations where formal waste management infrastructure previously did not exist. To date, these efforts have removed more that 22 million pounds of plastic destined for dumping in our oceans or informal landfills, while providing safe, stable, and formal employment to those who need it most. In honor of 🌎 Earth Day 2024, and as part of our commitment to help our customers shop their values, Great Eastern Sun is supporting the clean-up of waste in the remote Himalayan foothills, where openly dumped waste threatens the health of animals and people who live in the area as well as those downstream who rely on this natural water supply.   As a company, we believe in participating in programs that affect environmental and social changes with existing technologies as we continue to research and implement new, greener solutions in our day-to-day operations. Our involvement in this Earth Day initiative allows us to expand the impact of our partnership while giving our customers the opportunity to shop their values.   Our partnership with @repurposeglobal has enabled our customers to affect impactful environmental and social change in at-risk communities. Our funding supports Project Hara Kal in Kerala, India which has provided 328 waste workers with additional, reliable income while removing 16,507,608 million pounds of plastic waste from the environment. That's the equivalent of nearly one and a half BILLION plastic bags.   rePurpose is not waiting for a magic solution to the plastic waste crisis, but rather employs existing technologies to recycle, reprocess, and co-process all recovered waste. Utilizing environmentally sound processes while preventing waste from being openly burned or sent to landfills. All plastic that can be recycled is recycled. The remaining recovered plastics find a new life as building materials or fuel (through processes noted by the UNEP as cost effective and environmentally preferred to landfill or incineration). By engaging and empowering local informal waste workers, and utilizing existing technologies, we are able to take immediate action to remove nature-bound plastic waste from our treasured landscapes, waterways, and oceans.
