More Than a Thrift Store | Providing opportunities to those with barriers to employment
About us
Goodwill Industries of Kansas, Inc.’s mission is to provide opportunities to people with disabilities and barriers to employment seeking independent and productive lives. We work to fulfill our mission through several services to the community serving two populations: those with developmental disabilities and those with other employment barriers. Part of an international brand, Goodwill locations across the globe are operated and led autonomously based on community need – but all use the power of work to provide purpose, pride, and dignity to those they serve. Revenue from the sale of donated goods at Goodwill's nineteen stores in Kansas and an online auction site, shopgoodwill.com/ks, provide the majority of the funding for our mission programs.

We proudly continued our partnership with WSU Tech by contributing $25,000 to the WSU Tech Foundation for the FutureMaker Mobile Learning Lab! FutureMaker is a key player in the WSU Tech Girls Rock Science Camp, providing young girls with educational opportunities and career paths in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) to help shape their futures. Our organization is honored to support this initiative and we thank FutureMaker and WSU Tech for empowering the next generation! #MoreThanAThriftStore

We are thankful to Sedgwick County Department of Corrections for organizing the Women's Retreat Day at the City of Wichita Kansas, Wichita Public Library. Judy Ruesser, of NexStep Alliance and Jo Lynn Bright with HopeNet recently shared how each organization's programs support the community reentering the workforce. This helps individuals have the resources they need to transition back into society including continuing their education or job training. Congratulations to NexStep Alliance Director, Yamir Lozada, M.S.Ed.! Yamir will be honored with the 40 Under 40 Awards from the Wichita Business Journal. Our students and team are fortunate to have his leadership within our NexStep program. "What I have enjoyed the most in my career of 15 years of service in education has been the opportunity to continue to be a student. The 10,000+ students I have had the chance to serve are all unique individuals, and as an educator, I have learned so much from every single student of mine. I have been amazed by their resilience and perspectives and will always remain humble because of them. I will always be a servant to the students, and I will always be learning from them." #MoreThanAThriftStore Video: Method Productions
