We would like to introduce our Keynote Speaker for The Excel Center Spring Graduation, Kenneth "Muskie" Harris! Harris is a former athlete, businessman, politician and community partner. He was the first African American male from Little Rock’s Central High School to attend the University of Arkansas on an athletic scholarship. He was a four-year letterman on the football team. He went on to become the first black male on the University of Arkansas’s Alumni Board of Directors, serving three four-year terms and initiated the U of A Black Alumni Association. He has also served three terms on the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors. We look forward to him giving the commencement address and thank him for supporting and cheering on our graduates. #goodwillar #excel #adulteducation
Goodwill Industries of Arkansas is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Roy & Christine Sturgis Charitable Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee. This funding will help us enhance our Welding Certification Program offered through The Academy at Goodwill Industries of Arkansas in Little Rock and Springdale. With this funding, Goodwill will provide welding students with their own welder’s kit containing tools and supplies they can take with them after graduation. The funding will also allow Goodwill to purchase supplies and materials to improve the welding labs in both locations. #goodwill #GoodwillAR #givetogood #tradeschool #welding

As a result of the damage we received to our Rogers GRC and Outlet Store during this past weekend’s storms, we are evaluating the building and how to best continue operations. At this time, the power has not been restored and we are unable to operate in the space. We do not own the building, but our operation there is more than just the outlet. We have approximately 50 employees who work out of this facility and we are working to provide them with opportunities to continue working during these challenging times. Brian Marsh, our president and CEO, will be traveling to Northwest Arkansas to work with our team to determine the best course of action, now and for the future. We are also working to help others in the area who have also been affected by the storms who need help. As a result, we have donated $7500 in disaster relief vouchers to be distributed by the Red Cross of Arkansas in the area and they can be used at any of our locations. (Pictured are Brian Marsh and Lori Arnold-Ellis, executive director of American Red Cross Missouri and Arkansas Region.) In addition, during the month of June, our retail store round-up across the state will be dedicated to helping in the recovery process for the communities affected.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and businesses that were impacted by the tornadoes in Northwest Arkansas early Sunday morning. Due to extreme weather damage, the Rogers GRC and outlet store on N. Dixieland will be closed for the foreseeable future. We will provide more updates as we continue to assess the building.
