FACT: Regardless of someone’s manner of entry, seeking asylum is a legal right – and more than that, it’s a cornerstone of U.S. and international law. Each year, tens of thousands of people migrate to the U.S. via the refugee resettlement program, through work visas, to reunite with family, and more. Of those who come through the Southern border, approximately 92% were encountered or turned themselves in to Border Control to begin their asylum cases. Disinformation and hateful rhetoric about immigrants and refugees are everywhere…on social media, in political speeches, on the news, and beyond. At Global Refuge, we know the truth: immigrants and refugees make the United States a better place. Not only is welcoming newcomers the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do. Don’t believe what you read in the comments. Get the facts. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eizRCFdH

Every day we see the richness of culture and diversity that immigrants and refugees bring to their new communities. This Disability Pride Month, we celebrate families like Ana Rosa's, whose children with auditory disabilities are thriving in their new lives and whose unique journeys inspire us all. 💓 📸 Kaylee Greenlee Beal

Yesterday, I visited a heart-wrenching exhibit, "War Diaries: Unheard voices of Ukrainian Children,” organized by the R.T. Weatherman Foundation at the Capitol. Hosted just hours after the bombing of a children’s hospital in Kyiv, this exhibit was all the more poignant. These children have lost fathers and mothers, been ripped from their homes, and suffered trauma that no human, let alone a child, should experience. As a nation and at Global Refuge, we must do everything we can to support Ukrainians fleeing war and seeking refuge.

I love the collaborative spirit and innovation that The Welcome Co-op brings to refugee resettlement in Georgia. As a joint effort between Inspiritus and other local resettlement agencies, the Welcome Co-op marshals the collective resources of each organization to make an impact even greater than the sum of its parts. This work makes a huge difference in the lives of refugees in Atlanta and beyond. Thank you John Moeller, Aimee Zangandou, Becca Butcher, LMSW, Emily Laney, LMSW and the rest of the Welcome Co-op team for welcoming the Global Refuge board. photo credit: Ben Gray

Truly inspired by the dedication and hard work of the team at The Welcome Co-op! Their collaborative model can be an example for other communities across the country that Global Refuge works with. Thanks for hosting us and letting us roll up our sleeves and get to work! And loved meeting some of the team at Inspiritus, a faithful affiliate partner that is expanding and working tirelessly in this important work of welcome.
We were thrilled to host the Board of Directors from Global Refuge today, the national resettlement agency for partner organization Inspiritus . We had the opportunity to share about the work of The Welcome Co-Op and how we have come together with partners in the spirit of collaboration to welcome families to Georgia. This incredible group of leaders assembled furniture, organized hygiene kits and sorted clothing donations as part of their board meeting visit to Atlanta. Thank you for serving refugee families with us today, we are grateful! #refugeeswelcome #partnership #buildingcommuitytogether
