As we gather to celebrate Independence Day, we honor those that sacrificed for our freedom and celebrate the spirit of America that drives us forward. At Global Partners we’re thankful for the opportunity to provide our employees, customers and retail guests what they need to keep moving, whether that’s fuel for your holiday weekend road trip or a few ‘extras’ for that backyard barbecue.    From all of us at Global Partners, wishing you a safe and happy Fourth of July with family and friends. #IndependenceDay #July4th

Last week our #GlobalPInterns had an exciting visit to our Alltown Fresh location in Ayer!  Adam W., Sales Intern, summed up the experience: "I loved learning about what makes Alltown Fresh different from other convenience stores. We learned about the layout of the store, met a lot of friendly staff members, and ate a wonderful Mexican-style lunch for Taco Tuesday. The food was exceptionally fresh, and I think it was better than Chipotle!"  At Alltown Fresh, the interns discovered firsthand how innovation meets convenience, as well as how every aspect of Alltown Fresh reflects a commitment to quality and community.  Austin F., IT Intern, shared: “Thank you to the Alltown Fresh team for hosting us and providing such an insightful experience. I look forward to applying these learnings to our own endeavors and continuing to push the boundaries of what's possible in retail.”

Joining us from the Corporate Citizenship department, we met with #GlobalPIntern, Jack R., a rising sophomore at University of Notre Dame with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Politics, Philosophy & Economics. In his free time, Jack enjoys playing pickleball and holds the position of Vice President of his university's pickleball club. Jack’s team is very excited to have him supporting their department this summer! Why did you choose Global for an Internship?  “I chose Global because throughout the interview process, I spoke with [the team] about what my position would entail, and our discussions led me to be super excited how I’d be able to participate in giving back to the community and all the charitable initiatives Global has to offer. Even though this internship is different than what I’ve been studying in my major, I figured I would enjoy it greatly and it would be a great experience.” What are you looking to get out of this experience?  “I’m looking to continue exploring what my career could look like in the future, and to not only learn more about corporate citizenship, but also to connect with people throughout the company and further understand their roles. This is my first internship experience, so I was also looking forward to understanding what it is like to work in a corporate, professional setting.” What has been your favorite part of the internship so far?  “One of my favorite parts of the internship so far has been Global for Good’s “Boats and Bands 2024” event, which I recently attended. It was a very fun experience and it allowed me to connect with so many people from Global. It was a great way to bring people together and to give money to charity.” What are you looking to do post-graduation?  “I’m not completely sure what I’ll be looking to do after I graduate but ideally, I’ll be in a role that is at the intersection of technology and ethics.” Has anything resonated with you? Please elaborate.  “Something that has really resonated with me is the fact that Global is a publicly traded company with one of the largest terminal networks in the Northeast, yet I’ve been presented with the opportunity to meet and speak with CEO, Eric Slifka, as well as several other executives. Opportunities like these are what has made this internship such a unique experience, and I think it speaks volumes about how the company centers around family and community values.” #GrowWithGlobal

In the second Lunch and Learn of the summer, our #GlobalPinterns got the opportunity to meet and speak with Global CEO Eric Slifka. Rather than approaching the group with a lecture on his career, Eric instead took the time to speak to each intern individually. Through learning about each intern's experience, he was able to offer personal advice and share anecdotes about his journey. HR Intern Hannah K. described the experience as, “incredibly insightful. I was not expecting him to take the time to speak to each of us, but it really showed how amazing Global’s environment is.”  Eric concluded the event sharing his appreciation for the work the #GlobalPInterns do, “We do try to create a good environment. We’re lucky to have all of you here, because you’re what’s next. What’s in your minds right now is what we need.” Another intern remarked, “His personable manner and sincere advice will stay with this me through the summer and beyond.”

Each week our #GlobalPInterns gather together to eat lunch and meet with a leader at Global. Last week Mark Romaine, Global’s Chief Operating Officer, walked the interns through his journey at Global, gave advice and answered questions. He explained his 26-year journey, starting as a member of the sales team, transitioning to the trading group and ultimately leading him to his current executive leadership position.  Grace O., HR Intern, remarked that “Mark has been COO for the past eleven years but was still able to offer humble advice and laugh with the us.” Mark offered insight into how Global has expanded throughout the years, saying “my journey is the company's journey.” He gave advice not just on specific teams, but on interpersonal skills in the workplace. Below are just a few of his thoughts that resonated with the interns. “We don’t grow without good people”   “You have to be humble, be a good person and treat people with respect.”  “Hard work is the one thing you can control.”  “Pursue what suits you.” #GrowWithGlobal

In honor of Junteenth, our Houston team participated in The Freedom Walk/Run, hosted by the Emancipation Park Conservancy. The event was coordinated by Antonio W. and Felicia J., Co-Chairs of Roots, our Black, African, and African American Employee Resource Group in an effort for the ERG to show support to their local community. The mission of Emancipation Park Conservancy is to enhance Emancipation Park by preserving its integrity and enriching its heritage as a local, state, national, and international landmark. Their goal is to transform the park into one of the nation’s premier landmark parks and international destinations. Antonio shared, “Not being a Houston native, it meant a lot to be able to stand in a place of tradition and to understand its history. This is year 159 since the 1st Juneteenth and to know that Emancipation Park was bought by Blacks in order to be able to preserve the history of Juneteenth is truly inspirational. So we wanted to be able to represent Global while honoring the rich history of Emancipation park and Juneteenth at the same time.” We are proud to support such an important cause as a way to celebrate Juneteenth.

Join us in celebrating PRIDE Month with Martina G.K., Territory Manager and Co-Chair of PRISM, our LGBTQIA+ employee resource group. Martina has been with Global for just over three years, bringing a wealth of experience from her time working with big box retailers. Martina's community group leadership began in college as President of the LGBTQ group. She embraced the co-chair role of PRISM because "this felt very similar. It felt like an opportunity to build a sense of community at Global." Her goal is to create an environment where people come together to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and its values. She wants people to know that, "Global is a place where it's ok, it's safe, and it's encouraged to be out and proud at work." Reflecting on how PRIDE has evolved, Martina shared, "PRIDE when I was younger was about attending parades. Today, I feel that PRIDE is about being authentic and bringing your whole self to work and being your whole self out in the world." Martina is also passionate about supporting The Trevor Project, an organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth, who are four times as likely to consider suicide as an option. Learn more about The Trevor Project at thetrevorproject.org Join us in honoring Martina's dedication to fostering inclusivity and celebrating PRIDE at Global! 🏳️🌈 #GrowWithGlobal
