It was an honor to attend a wonderful brunch at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach with the Girl Scouts of Orange County and their amazing Promise Circle supporters! These members come together with their time, philanthropy, and connections to keep the magic of the Girl Scout experience alive and thriving. The event opened with a Girl Scout making a land acknowledgement about the indigenous inhabitants of this land, the Tongva (Gabrielinos) and the Acjachemem (Juanenos). Mari Edler, a presidential scholar at USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy, Gold Award Girl Scout, and Girl Scouts of Orange County intern, spoke about her experience with the Girl Scouts and how it shaped the trajectory of her higher education path as well as the importance of design thinking and her project which earned her the highly esteemed award.
