Preparing students for life.

About us

Led by State School Superintendent Richard Woods, the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) is the state agency serving Georgia’s K-12 public school districts, schools, and students. GaDOE develops K-12 learning standards – which define what students should know and be able to do in each grade level and course – in partnership with teachers, higher education experts, business and industry representatives, parents, and other stakeholders. We ensure relevant information about Georgia’s K-12 education system is available to the public. We work to provide the resources and support necessary for all schools to improve, so that they can provide the best possible education for the students they serve. We manage the flow of federal and state funds to local school districts. GaDOE works in partnership with Georgia’s 181+ local school districts, focusing on a “service and support” model and making sure those districts have the infrastructure they need – from instruction to technology to school safety and security -- to ensure every student can learn. Together, we have a shared vision to ensure a high standard of educational quality across the state of Georgia, while giving all communities – rural, urban, and suburban – the flexibility to meet their individual local needs.
