About us

The mission of Gateway House of Peace is to provide a safe, comfortable and caring residence for terminally ill people while supporting their families during their final days. For the community members who become our residents, this is often their only option for their final days. Gateway House of Peace provides this care at no charge to the resident or their family.

Nugent will present excerpts from her memoir, “They Live On: Saying Goodbye to Mom and Dad,” paired with original music by Michael Jerling at the Malta Ave. Elementary School’s auditorium on Saturday Feb. 3 at 1:00pm (snow date Feb 10).   This collaboration between two local artists employing two different forms of creative expression has resulted in a tribute to life, loss, and love titled “They Live On…in Word and Song.” It features Nugent’s prose coupled with nine original songs by singer/songwriter Michael Jerling. It was performed last November to a sold-out crowd at Caffe Lena.   Tickets for the 90-minute benefit performance are available at https://lnkd.in/g9pN_yFB. For more information, email info@gatewayhouseofpeace.org.   There will also be a mini-expo that afternoon at the school with the following agencies offering free information and resources: Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, Office of the Aging, Hospice, Southern Adirondack Independent Living (SAIL), Gina’s Wisdom Center, Starsia Law, and Gateway House of Peace. Open to the public and runs 1-3:30. ### A feature story and/or coverage of this event would be appreciated. • October 14 was World Palliative Care Day On Saturday, October 14, 2023, World Hospice and Palliative Care Day will celebrate and foster compassionate communities: both the ideal and the reality. “Palliative care is a shared responsibility,” writes Steven Connor, Executive Director of the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance, which initiated World Day and tracks its activities, citing “the continued need to come together to support communities and each other now more than ever.” Creating compassionate communities is the foundational goal of Public Health and Palliative Care International, which describes them as “mostly groups of neighbors living close to each other in villages or suburban areas that come together to organize a way to support people in their own area who are living with life-limiting illness, caregiving or grief and loss. Often these compassionate communities are inspired or facilitated by local hospice or palliative care services[.]” Gateway House of Peace is an end-of-life care home located in Ballston Spa, NY that is dedicated to providing a safe, comfortable, caring residence for terminally ill patients and their families in need of a home during their final days. We are committed to providing compassionate, dignified, quality care that will support the natural processes that occur in the final days of life. Gateway House does not charge for their care, and need is the deciding factor once we have determined that an individual is a good fit to be a resident at the house. While we ‘only’ have two resident beds, we often have extended family and friends at the house as they support one another, and their loved one. We are willing and able to be that ‘compassionate community’ that facilitates comfort care. If you have questions, or a loved one needs support, contact us about end of life comfort care and for assistance in finding answers to delicate topics.
