Want to see important and consequential trials?
Seeking your 3-minute input! It remains a great frustration that New Yorkers and others in the country cannot see important and consequential trials taking place in NYS. Our present law prohibits cameras in the NY trial courts. This year we can change that. Please make three phone calls (leave a message if you receive a service or simply offer the below to whoever answers the call). Here is the Simple Message: "I am (name), I live in New York. I strongly support cameras in our courts and the passage of A712a. (Add your own words if you wish). Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie : 518-455-3791 Judiciary Chair Charles Lavine : 518-455-5456 Your Assembly members (look here) Please let me know about your experience making the call - simply email kronstadt@moderncourts.org And read our report....and forward this message! https://lnkd.in/d7nQ4WWK

Still time to register!
March 6, 2024 from 11AM to 1PM -- Join us for an informative, varied perspective CLE on why New York is only 2 of 50 states that forbids Cameras in the Courts. Should we have audio-visual coverage of certain trials and prohibit viewing others? Are there protections we can put in place? What DO other states do? How does the public's right to an open courts mesh with litigants, defendants and witnesses rights to privacy? Can we learn about our judicial system from watching trials and what role does the media play? All this and more will be covered in this CLE.
