Building upon our building pad preparation discussion from last month we took our Blue Oval Marshall Team’s interns and newest employees back out to the same area again to observe and learn from our trade partners about what is involved in installing spread footing foundations. Our team learned about layout and building control, excavation, geotechnical testing, rebar installation, placing concrete, installing anchor bolts and as always I worked some site logistics into the discussion. We're excited to introduce Samuel Workman and Joseph Hohn, our talented interns joining the Project Management Team in F&B's Tennessee office! Samuel, a student studying Concrete Industry Management at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), shared his take on his internship experience so far: "I’m glad to be a part of the team and the internship is going great! I chose to intern with Fessler & Bowman frankly because of the conversations I had with the representatives from the company that visited MTSU and conducted my interview. You guys were very personable towards me and answered any questions that I had to my satisfaction regarding the work Fessler & Bowman does and the values they strive to uphold. I was drawn to the industry from a desire to understand concrete construction and make a career out of it in the future. During my time here, I hope to gain insight on what makes exceptional project managers and superintendents." In his free time, Samuel enjoys working out and playing country music on the guitar! Joseph, a Civil Engineering student at the University of Kentucky, shared his thoughts on his internship: "I'm thrilled to be part of the team at Fessler & Bowman. So far, I've had a great experience and am enjoying the chance to work both in the field and in the office with such a talented group. I chose to intern here because I wanted hands-on experience and to learn from a top-notch team. Growing up around construction—thanks to my dad's career—has fueled my interest in this industry. My goal is to absorb as much knowledge as possible about concrete and the keys to becoming a successful project manager." A fun tidbit about Joseph: he's an avid skier!
