Today, my colleagues and I had the privilege of presenting Felton Institute’s ECE REACH program at the 2024 UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS) Education Summit at the Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA. This innovative initiative, done in partnership with Mission Economic Development Agency, Foothill College, and EDvance College, is a collective impact, two-generation pre-apprenticeship, and apprenticeship program. We specially shared our pre-apprenticeship Tier 1 program which is designed to empower Latinas mothers served in our programs with access to higher education and entry roles in Early Childhood Education. Our session, titled “Saliendo de las Sombras: Empowering Undocumented Latinas with Access to Higher Education and Entry Roles in Early Childhood Education" covered several crucial areas: 1. Understand the Unique Challenges: We highlighted the specific barriers faced by Latina mothers, including undocumented Latinas and caregivers aspiring to enter the ECE workforce, including economic, educational, and social challenges. 2. Explore Innovative Solutions: We shared how the ECE REACH program's model creates an accelerated, entry-level career pathway tailored for Latina parents and caregivers, addressing both academic and socioeconomic barriers. 3. Examine Holistic Support Systems: We discussed the importance of wrap-around services such as academic courses, work-based learning, mentorship, and financial literacy in supporting the upward mobility of Latina job seekers. 4. Evaluate Impact and Outcomes: We reviewed the pilot year outcomes of ECE REACH, showcasing graduation rates, credential attainment, and job placement success, demonstrating the positive correlation between holistic support and economic stability for families. 5. Discuss Policy and Legislation Implications: We analyzed the role of policies like San Francisco Proposition C “Baby Prop C” in supporting the development of a diverse ECE workforce and discussed these kinds of investments. It was an incredible opportunity to share our work and connect with others dedicated to creating pathways for success for Latinas in early childhood education. #ECE #EarlyChildhoodEducation #UnidosUSSummmit2024 #LatinaEmpowerment #UndocumentedStudents #EducationSummit #CollectiveImpact #TwoGenerationApproach #HigherEducation #Apprenticeships #Innovation #partnerships #WorkforceDevelopment

In honor of Juneteenth, our Bayview Drop-In Center hosted a day of celebration for our clients and the local community. Our chefs prepared a fulfilling dinner featuring BBQ ribs, chicken, links, mac and cheese, yams, and cabbage. Supervisors organized engaging activities, including board games, a Domino Tournament, and a Soul Train quiz with prizes for the winners. Huge shout out to the Bayview team! What they do at Mother Brown's Kitchen is unmatched. The kitchen is nothing without these folks. We are proud to celebrate freedom and community together. Big congratulations to Tina, our Domino tournament winner! #Bayview #HumanServices #Juneteenth

I took this selfie yesterday at The Precita Cafe, feeling inspired by the beautiful mural of San Francisco and the pride flag. A lot of what I do at work looks like this, sitting in front of my computer dreaming up new ways to support the children of San Francisco. I feel so blessed to be a part of Felton Institute, an agency that has been supporting this beautiful, diverse, inclusive city for well over a century!

The Sonoma Department of Human Services - Behavioral Health Division (DHS-BHD) held a Regional Behavioral Health Collaborative event on May 30, 2024 at the Finley Community Center in Santa Rosa. The event was hosted in partnership with the Hospital Council and included leadership and providers from Sonoma County as well as neighboring counties: Napa, Solano, Marin, Mendocino, and Lake. Panels covered behavioral health county updates, crisis management, innovations in new programs, and legislative policy updates. Ms. Shannon Wise, M.A., Program Director of the Justice Services Division’s Crossroads to Hope (C2H) Program, was a featured presenter on the Innovations Panel. She shared insights from her 20 years of experience working with nonprofit agencies serving justice-impacted, low-income clients dealing with substance recovery and mental health issues while seeking housing. Crossroads to Hope is a therapeutic residential program providing transitional housing for clients enrolled in the Mental Health Diversion Court of Sonoma County and Sonoma County Behavioral Health services, staffed by Peer Support Specialists. #SonomaCounty #SantaRosa #BehavioralHealthServices
