Many retail spaces are not built with a certain brand in mind. Instead, designers and brands have to work with the existing conditions of the space provided. In Patagonia Chicago, we wanted to create a large moment dedicated to telling the brand's purpose at the entry of the store, but the existing architecture didn't provide a natural location to execute it. Instead of placing the purpose statement in a different location, we designed a vertical slat wall display that served as a space divider, decompression zone, and a point of intrigue from the transparency into the rest of the retail space. To finish it off, we created selected natural materials and natural wood-finished dimensional lettering to align with the brand's ethos around sustainability. Do you like how this statement piece feels in the space?

While the term "biophilic design" is relatively new, the concept has been around for centuries. However, we are seeing more retailers include biophilia inside their store designs. Bringing nature inside a retail space encourages customers to linger longer since nature makes humans feel at ease. Can you think of any other retail spaces that have made nature a part of their store?
