This week we applaud the stellar programming that park and recreation agencies offer to communities across the country👏 With diverse activities and adaptable spaces, they get all bodies movin and groovin! The Fairfax County Park Authority's Skate the Wake event is a great example. Community members gathered for a skate competition, free lessons, music, graffiti art, and sensory-friendly tent! Monday was a beautiful day to be in the park and to discuss the economic impact of parks! Fairfax County Park Authority Executive Director, Jai Cole, was hosted by the National Recreation and Park Association in Washington D.C. to meet with congressional staffers and reinforce the essential role of Fairfax County parks in the local and state economy. In short, a strong, equitable park system = a strong local economy, improved health, and environmental sustainability. Special thanks to Northern Virginia Chair and Professor of Public Policy at George Mason University, Terry Clower, Ph.D., for leading the groundbreaking research that fueled the economic impact briefing. The future of #fairfaxparks have arrived! Today we officially launched our summer internship program with an orientation and social. This summer, FCPA is excited to host 35 interns across all operational areas. From horticulture, park operations, access and inclusion, HR, IT, finance, marketing and communications, sports tourism, special events, natural resource management, and so much more, our interns are making an impact across Fairfax County. 🌻 This cohort of interns is destined to learn and grow as members of #teamFCPA. #joinfcpa Fairfax County Park Authority
