The Fourth of July is a festive holiday for us humans, but it can be stressful and dangerous for pets (and one of the busiest days at shelters and vet clinics). We’re here to help you keep your furry family safe, comfortable, and calm throughout our Independence Day celebrations! 💚Microchip Your Pets: If they aren’t microchipped, get it done, and make sure it’s active. 💚Update ID Tags: Make sure your pets’ ID tags are current and securely attached to their collars. 💚Take a Current Photo of your Pets: Have a recent photo of your pets in case you need to make lost pet posters. 💚Create a Safe Space for Pets During Fireworks 💚Secure Your Yard: Check your yard for holes or spots in your fence that a frightened pet could escape through. 💚Set up a comfy area in your home where your pet can retreat when fireworks start. This can be a crate for dogs or a room for cats with their litter boxes- you definitely don’t want to forget those! 💚Make sure no one opens doors during fireworks. Pets may bolt during the worst of it. 💚Refrain from having friends bring new/unknown dogs over. It’s not a great night for socializing. 💚Bring your outdoor kitties in for the night. Exercise and Calming Aids for Dog Safety 💚Before the Fireworks: Give your dog plenty of physical exercise earlier in the day to help burn off energy. 💚Use calming chews or meds as prescribed. We’re excited to welcome you and your dogs to Woofstock at the Barnacle! We expect many pups to attend, so we want to help ensure a safe, happy, and friendly environment for everyone. Here are a few tips and rules to keep your dogs safe at our (and every) event!⁣ We typically have 800-1000 people and their pets at our events. If your pup is shy or nervous, we recommend you join our smaller events. Everyone must sign a dog waiver before coming into the park. If a dog misbehaves or is aggressive, we will ask them to leave. Sign the dog waiver here: https://lnkd.in/e73K6SMw ⁣ ✅Tip 1: Make sure your dog is current with all their vaccines. We require proof of rabies vaccination to enter the park and that all dogs have collars with ID. ⁣ ❎Tip 2: Don’t bring sick or immunocompromised pets to an event. If you notice your dog isn’t feeling well, has a cough, runny nose, or diarrhea, etc., please keep them home. ⁣ ❎Tip 3: Don’t share water bowls. We will have water at the park and individual bowls, or bring your own bowls.⁣ ⁣ ❎Tip 4: Don’t bring anxious dogs to large events. It’s not the ideal place to try to socialize a nervous nelly. Do it in controlled doses with a trainer, or join our smaller group walk on May 9th at Whisk. ⁣ ✅Tip 5: Keep your dogs on a hand-held leash (no more than 6 ft long) except in designated off-leash areas. ⁣ Retractable leads aren't allowed except in certain cases. ⁣ ✅Tip 6: Pick up your dog’s poop! ⁣ ❎Tip 7: Don’t bring aggressive, untrained, or very undisciplined pets to public events. Aggressive dogs will be asked to leave.⁣ ⁣ ✅Tip 8: Pay attention to dogs’ body language and avoid greetings on a leash, as this is stressful for many dogs. Notice hackles, tails (are they relaxed and wagging, or raised stiffly, tucked between the legs?), brows, and mouth shape.⁣ Set your dog up for success. ⁣ ✅Tip 9: Keep your dog cool and hydrated. Give them breaks in the shade and if they have costumes, take them off periodically. ⁣ ⁣ ✅Tip 10: Watch for signs of distress. Be attentive to your dog's behavior. If they seem agitated or uncomfortable, it might be time to leave.⁣ ⁣ We hope this helps and look forward to creating new, fun memories with you at Woofstock!

Join us on Sunday, May 5th at 11:00 AM for a day of peace, love, and paws for a good cause: raising funds for Paw Patrol Animal Rescue and the Barnacle. Call for Vendors for Woofstock in Coconut Grove! We invite you to participate in Woofstock, our annual Day of Peace, Love, and Paws, on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM! This event supports Paw Patrol Animal Rescue and Barnacle Historic State Park and draws around 900 attendees annually. Event Highlights: 💚 Family and pet-friendly shopping experience with local businesses 💚 Live music, a canine lure course, an off-leash dog zone. 💚 Dog contests, animal caricatures, and a blessing of the animals ceremony. 💚 Variety of food and drink options! Vendor Opportunities: We’re looking for vendors who offer pet-related products or services, handmade goods, or unique items for pet lovers. This event is a perfect opportunity to showcase your offerings to a large audience of pet parents! We also have space for candle and soap makers, as well as plant vendors. Other Participation Options: If you can't attend, consider sponsoring gift bags or donating a gift basket for contest prizes to support our cause and gain visibility.
