Today the consortium Schoolkracht (AG REAL ESTATE , EPICo², Rebel and Ethias) signed the agreement for the design, construction, financing and maintenance over 30 years of 27 schools in Flanders. Signing: Geert Jacobs, Philippe Monserez, Dries Verhaeghe and Serge Fautré. These schools form the first cluster of an ambitious €1 billion school building programme with 450,000 m² of school space for 85,000 pupils. Interesting to note is that private individuals will incidentally be able to co-invest in the school buildings and thus become school shareholders. Geert Jacobs, Head of Transport and Digital Infrastructure at EPICo², adds: “The modernization of education infrastructure is crucial, and opting for a public-private partnership according to the DBFM formula is an ideal way to tackle that challenge. 292 solar panels with a capacity of 440 Wp are being installed on the roof of the Rooienberg sports hall in Duffel (Belgium) to save energy and reduce CO₂ emissions. For the solar panel project, an amendment to the DBFM agreement with Sport in Vlaanderen nv was made - that is a public-private partnership for the design, construction, financing and maintenance of sports infrastructure in Flanders. Through the collaboration, 9 sports halls were realised. "Within the agreement, we give local authorities maximum flexibility and support to realise green energy projects," says Geert Mertens, SPV manager of DBFM Sport in Flanders which has PMF Infrastructure Fund as investment partner.

Dispatch, a leading Dutch battery developer, is going to construct the Netherlands' largest stand-alone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This groundbreaking 45MW/ 90Mh utility-scale BESS will be located in the port area of Dordrecht, on a 6000m² site and will be used for grid stabilization by storing excess energy from renewable sources. Construction is set to commence in the coming months and arranged in partnership with EPICo², Macquarie Capital and lender ABN AMRO Bank N.V. Contract documents were signed today with which De Werkvennootschap on behalf of the Flemish government to start the cooperation with BRAVO4, consisting of BESIX, EPICo, I4B - The Belgian Infrastructure Fund, RID PPP (Rebel and abrdn) and STADSBADER NV for the reconstruction of the R4 East and West in the north of Ghent, the largest DBFM project in Belgium. A consortium of EPICo, Rebel, Democo and Van Roey nv has successfully reached financial close for a second cluster of 3 schools in Ghent and Ninove early in 2024. In the summer of 2023 a first cluster of 7 schools was closed. Construction of the first school, which will house 150 children and will play a key role in the development of the ‘Nieuw Gent’ quarter, has readily started and is expected to reach completion by the end of 2025. In total, the Ghent & Ninove cluster will house nearly 600 children in brand new schools built according to the highest industry and energy standards. Further reading: https://lnkd.in/dUjUKqRE
