About us
The EOSC Association is the legal entity established to govern the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). It was formed on 29th July 2020 with four founding members and has since grown to over 200 Members and Observers. The Association membership is jointly responsible for delivering the objectives agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the European Union and EOSC Association to form the official Partnership. The EOSC ecosystem is being co-created in a series of funded projects and initiatives from Member States and Associated Countries. The EOSC Association plays an important role in helping to coordinate and steer these investments via its Task Forces and other governance structures.

Open University becomes the first UK university to be admitted to the EOSC Association The #EOSC Association’s mission is aligned with the Open University’s Open Research objective to champion a collaborative open #research culture. “We are delighted to welcome The Open University as the first #UK university to join the European Open Science Cloud Association. With decades of expertise in open research and education, and the largest student body in the UK, the OU’s addition as an Observer of EOSC-A is significant. Having members from the United Kingdom is essential for EOSC-A because of the country’s role in global research and strong tradition in Open Science,” said Karel Luyben, EOSC-A President. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d9Qftf7E The OU was one of five new observers admitted to EOSC-A at its 8th General Assembly at the end of May. The EOSC Association also welcomed five new Members. Save the date: EOSC-A 9th General Assembly, 22 November We are pleased to announce that the 9th #EOSC Association General Assembly will take place online on Friday, 22 November 2024. The virtual meeting gives you the opportunity to conveniently join us from your preferred location to vote on decision items and to contribute to critical discussions that impact the direction of EOSC-A. Notably, we anticipate that four Board of Directors positions will be filled at GA#9 via direct election by the EOSC-A membership. This represents a significant turnover of the EOSC-A leadership at a critical time in EOSC’s development, and we encourage all qualified Members to strongly consider enrolling as candidates. A formal Call for Candidates, detailing the roles and responsibilities, requirements and process will be issued in due time. https://lnkd.in/df2R_E9N

The European Commission gathers 25 EOSC-related projects to align on the next steps for EOSC implementation On 20-21 June 2024 in Brussels, the European Commission, represented by DG for Research and Innovation, DG for Communications Networks Content and Technology, and the European Research Executive Agency (REA), organised the 2024 annual Coordination meeting of #EOSC-related projects funded under #HorizonEurope. Representatives of the 25 projects were informed about the status of development of the EOSC EU Node and the EOSC Federation. It was underscored that EOSC plays a pivotal role in establishing the European Digital #SingleMarket, in particular the creation of a European #KnowledgeCommons, as described in the Enrico Letta report. The seven #INFRAEOSC projects launched in 2023 presented their objectives and work plans, and the concept of cross-project collaboration within the recently launched EOSC Opportunity Area Expert Groups was explained.
