This photo was not prompted by artificial intelligence. It was captured through the eyes of my wife off a window as we waited for a cup of coffee outside a little shop in Montreal. The moment was created when natural light came together with artificial lighting behind the window to amplify and color a reflection of the old city. All the ingredients that made that moment may never come together exactly that way again. That's why I'm grateful for the serendipity that allows you to see them crystallized. The photo came about because I was invited to observe a company called Encore Corporate Travel come together at a retreat. Which means it came about because of more than 30 years of work put in by a woman named Monique Mardinian to make Encore so successful. A business like hers is described in places like LinkedIn with words like “Innovative technology” and “cost-saving capabilities” and “white glove services” and “high customer satisfaction.” But when you see people in a company come together and listen to their stories, what you come away with is a deep level of caring that creates unique moments for all the people it touches. All that caring for more than 30 years is the reason this photo came to be. For all the amazing things that artificial intelligence can do, it cannot care the way humans do. But it's more than that. The photo also came about because of how Adam McGraw of CREW connected me to Monique. It always circles back to my mantra: Connect better.
