Three key insights on Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) for meeting summer demand peaks: ✅ Virtual power plants (VPPs) can be deployed quickly, often within six to twelve months, providing a reliable and affordable solution for meeting summer peak electricity demand. ✅ Deploying VPPs can help utilities avoid substantial capital expenditures, potentially saving $15 billion to $35 billion over ten years by meeting resource adequacy needs with 60 GW of VPP capacity. ✅ As the volume of distributed energy resources (DERs) increases, VPP programs will become more sophisticated in managing demand peaks, leveraging smart thermostats, commercial demand response, and bidirectional EV charging.
