The Dr. Bronner's label was written first, before there was a product to put it on. ⁣ ⁣⁣ Transformed by the tragedy of losing both his parents in the Holocaust — and deeply alarmed by the rise of the nuclear age — Dr. Emanuel Bronner was convinced the world was on the brink of destruction.⁣ ⁣ So he devoted himself entirely to writing & sharing a peace plan he referred to as the "Moral ABC."⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ In it, he emphatically & poetically urged the world to unite as one. "All-One!"⁣ ⁣ He drew inspiration from various religious & historical figures, as well as the stars & the cosmos, to emphasize the point that — despite our ethnic, religious and national differences — there is more about us that is the same and connects us to each other. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ "We are All One or None!" he'd exclaim from a soapbox in Los Angeles, while passing out his family's peppermint castile soap on the side.⁣ ⁣ However, when he realized people were more interested in the soap than absorbing the All-One message, he began printing the message in tiny script directly on the label. We are sad to share the passing of bar soap legend & soulful historian, Luis Spitz. 🌈 🧼 Luis was the world's foremost authority in bar soap manufacturing, and even connected Dr. Bronner's with Eco Soap Bank — a nonprofit that recycles & distributes bar soap into bars for people who need them in the Global South. Luis was also a Holocaust survivor, and had the most unbelievable collection of soap poster art & advertisements from the 1800s & onwards — which is now housed in a museum in Colombia. Our CEO, David Bronner, hopes to visit & pay his respects in the next few years. Mega love & gratitude to Luis for all he taught us, and shared with the world! ❤️

It is with sad & heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of our beloved friend & fair trade partner in Sri Lanka: Gordon De Silva. ❤️🌻🌈 Back in 2005 (almost 20 years ago), Gordon partnered with his daughter, Sonali, and Dr. Bronner’s to create & manage Serendipol — the world's first organic & fair trade coconut oil operation. Gordon's decades of experience managing larger coconut-related businesses was foundational in building Dr. Bronner's organic & fair trade supply chain — which was deeply influenced by Gordon's desire to improve the livelihoods of Sri Lanka's rural people, and the conditions of deteriorated coconut farms. In doing so, he set a practical example for other fair-trade operations to follow, demonstrating that a business can be profitable without exploiting farmers & workers — all while improving soil health & biodiversity. Gordon's tenacity & business acumen was only matched by his wit & big heart. He was wise, savvy and kind, and used all his resources, gifts and strengths to create a more generous, fair and loving company and world — a true embodiment of the “All One” mission & spirit.
