About us

The mission of the District of Columbia Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, orderly and humane environment for the confinement of pretrial detainees and sentenced inmates, while affording those in custody meaningful rehabilitative opportunities that will assist them to constructively re-integrate into the community. The DOC system is comprised of two primary correctional facilities—the Central Detention Facility also known as the DC Jail and the privately operated Correctional Treatment Facility. All of DOC’s facilities are nationally accredited by and comply with all standards for jail operations and medical services from the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Standards and Accreditation. This designation reflects compliance with critical safety, security, operational and programmatic mandates. Additionally, DOC’s medical services are fully accredited and in compliance with the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare.
