LEADING IN CHARLESTON AND BEYOND -- Congratulations to Megan Smith, PE, manager of civil engineering in CRANSTON's Charleston office, for graduating from Leadership Charleston, along with her entire 2023-24 cohort of up-and-coming leaders from all around this historic South Carolina seaport. And she already is putting that training to good use. Megan also recently was named a member of the board of directors of the South Carolina chapter of the American Public Works Association, a trade organization in which she has played an active role in recent years. Indeed, we salute her. #cranston #leadershipcharleston #civilengineering #leadingchange #scapwa #apwa

ROCKIN' THE JAMES BROWN ARENA PROJECT -- Another feel-good day for Augusta, Ga., yesterday as this monumental project's many partners came together to celebrate a ceremonial ground-breaking for this new 10-story, 3 football fields-long entertainment and sports venue. CRANSTON's team, serving as the civil engineers for the project, joined city and state government and agency officials, along with the project's architects and construction partners, to watch the shovels mark the launch. CRANSTON is providing the demolition plan for the now-closed James Brown Arena and other nearby buildings, demolition permitting, utility relocation design, and overall site planning for the site, among other services. "This project is the largest in the city's history," said Brad Usry, chairman of the New Augusta Arena Committee, during the ceremony. "It has been a rollercoaster of success and setbacks...I knew the community at the right time would unite around this project." Demolition should begin later this summer, and officials are expecting the construction project to take an estimated 36 months to complete. #cranston #jamesbrownarena #augustaga #richmondcountyga #mcknightconstruction #jpl #perkinsandwill #civilengineering #ddaofaugusta

CONNECTING COMMUNITY -- North Augusta, S.C., opened its new Downtown Connector between the town's Greeneway trail and downtown North Augusta yesterday to great fanfare, and CRANSTON joined in the celebration. Indeed, a team of CRANSTON civil engineers provided engineering design for the project, which included wide, new sidewalks, roadway, crosswalks, stormwater management, and permitting, among other contributions. "Two words stand out most -- Downtown Connector," said the town's mayor, Briton Williams, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the corner of Bluff and West avenues. "Today, we're going to do a paradigm shift...The Greeneway always has been about recreation, but really what we're talking about in the future is 'downtown connection' -- with lots of connection points. What's important is the experience it's going to take you to." Civil engineer Penland Mayson, who worked extensively on the project, attended the celebration and is pictured below. North Augusta's new Downtown Connector represents yet another example of how CRANSTON "empowers communities to thrive." #cranston #civilengineering #northaugustasc #greenwaytrail #connectingcommunities #csra #savannahriver

SALUTING OUR S.C. CITY AND COUNTY MANAGERS — CRANSTON team members once again hit the road this week, this time to Hilton Head Island, where they celebrated South Carolina’s dedicated city and county managers at the spring S.C. City and County Managers Association conference. As a sponsor, CRANSTON set up an exhibit booth and held a random drawing for a fine bottle of bourbon. The lucky winner: Taylor Ladd of the Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority. With her in the photo is Matt Randall, head of civil engineering for our Hilton Head office and the surrounding area. #cranston #scccma #beaufortjasperwatersewerauthority #civilengineering

FRIENDS IN BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC — We connected with many of our communities and their public works professionals at this week’s American Public Works Association-SC conference in Columbia. But our friends in Beaufort County’s Public Works division left with our door prize. Congratulations to Kinard Freeman for the winning card. And thanks to Bradley Harriott, assistant public works director-operations, for his kindness in picking up the prize for his colleague and posing with CRANSTON civil engineer Ryan Sheridan for a photo. AND PACELINE IS OFF AND…RIDING — CRANSTON team members in Augusta, Ga., helped Paceline kick off its annual fund-raising efforts for the Georgia Cancer Center Saturday with a bike ride and event at the Savannah River Brewing Co. Landscape architect Matt Quirey rode 32 miles with members of several other local teams before celebrating at the brewery. These summertime fund-raising efforts will culminate in the annual Paceline Ride in October. The good news: 100% of the funds raised go to support important research at the Georgia Cancer Center aimed at “curing cancer faster.” Go Team CRANSTON! #cranstoncares #paceline #georgiacancercenter #mcgfoundation #cranston
