Thank you to NBC Connecticut for covering the important conversation we had about gun violence in Connecticut. It was a true pleasure to meet new colleagues like Jermaine Belcher and discuss this important issue with Hartford partners and Senator Blumenthal.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Jermaine Belcher, senior coordinator of Policy & Advocacy at The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI), participated in a community violence intervention (CVI) panel discussion. Hosted and facilitated by HARTFORD COMMUNITIES THAT CARE INC. (HCTC), one of our HAVI member sites, the panel was led by U.S. Senator Blumenthal of Connecticut. The discussion brought together several state and community groups and focused on sustainable support and funding for CVI work in Connecticut and beyond, emphasizing recent historic federal investments in violence prevention. The conversation was comprehensive, addressing violence as a public health issue, the importance of wrap-around services for families, and the essential role of community ecosystems. Joining the HAVI at the table were the Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner, Manisha Juthani; Hartford Office of Violence Prevention Director, Chavon Campbell; Center for Leadership and Justice Lead Neighborhood Organizer, Pastor AJ Johnson; HCTC’s Care Team Director, Shenell Benjamin; and CT HVIP Collaborative Director, Johanna Schubert. The roundtable was featured in the latest installment of NBC Connecticut’s News at 7 series. Watch here: https://lnkd.in/eWjdc-AU #CommunityViolenceIntervention #ViolencePrevention
