About us
The City of Greer, South Carolina One of South Carolina’s fastest-growing cities, Greer is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains — in the heart of the state’s bustling Upstate region with easy access to interstate highways, an international airport and rail service to the Port of Charleston. Spanning more than 22 square miles, Greer’s city limits to the north offer outdoor recreation at Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham, while the city’s southern boundary includes a major transportation corridor with Interstate 85 and the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, as well as BMW's only United States manufacturing facility. Two major healthcare systems, each with a state-of-the-art cancer center, have campuses in the city. The City of Greer took on a new look in 2008 as new municipal facilities opened to serve the public. A two-story Police and Court Complex anchors the west boundary of Greer Station, while a three-story Greer City Hall and 12-acre City Park are just two blocks to the east. City Hall includes an entire floor dedicated to public space, with a 4,500-square-foot events hall available for conventions, receptions, and galas. Just steps from the events hall, City Park includes a large fountain timed to music, an amphitheater for public concerts and ceremonies, a children's play area, walking trails, a picnic shelter, a pond, and ample green space for family fun. In addition to the BMW manufacturing plant, Greer is the longtime home of the North American Headquarters for Michelin North America and Mitsubishi Polyester Inc. South Carolina Ports opened its Inland Port at Greer in 2013. In 1990, Greer’s population was just over 10,000. That number topped 25,000 in 2010 and may surpass 100,000 residents in 2030 according to U.S. Census Bureau forecasts. The Greer Community is following its community master plan that contains strategies to handle the population and commercial growth expected over the next 15 years.

The City of Greer Parks, Recreation & Tourism department has been busy at work the past two days with the SC Leadership Enhancement And Development Institute or SC LEAD. The SC LEAD program is one of the most comprehensive development programs for park and recreation professionals and our department is no exception! There have been 11 people in attendance from all over the state for an overview of the Greer PRT department’s current challenges, public safety initiatives, and upcoming projects.

You could say the cat’s out of the bag at the City of Greer Municipal Court! Meet Hank, the Greer Court cat named after our own Judge Mims. Hank lives at the court 24/7 and is cared for by the different employees at the courthouse. He was brought in as an effort by the court staff to bring something positive into the workplace. Not only does Hank bring joy to employees, he also eases tensions when someone pays a ticket. Hank has even helped ease an upset victim who came through the court, making Hank the first known victim advo-cat in Greer. 😼

Yesterday, Camp Greer kids got to experience their very own car auction! The “auction” took place at the Needmore Recreational Center and was a fun way for the kids to see some cool cars and go frantic with fake money. The cars included: a Greer Police Department car, the Greenville Triumph car, a City of Greer Parks, Recreation & Tourism car and the Rugrats Reptar mobile (definitely the best option.)

Just a heads up for anyone heading to City Park tomorrow: the swing arbors will be repaired starting tomorrow morning at around 7:30 AM. During the repair, there will be barricades blocking off the entire area. These barricades will begin on each side of the smaller fountain and wrap around the backside of the swing arbor and along the brick wall behind the arbor. You will still be able to access the sidewalk to walk around the fountain and swing arbor (you just won't be able to walk through the middle.) We will keep you updated and let you know when the swing arbor repairs are finished!

The Greer Police Department recently gathered with the community for Coffee with a Cop at the Green Laundry Lounge. The goal of the gathering was to give residents a chance to meet with the people behind their local law-enforcement. It was a great way to ask general questions and build positive relationships with officers. We’re looking forward to more like this in the future!
