A big thank you to Senior Streets Operator Michael Nutt. Michael noticed a truck parked suspiciously on the grass near the Gaslight Theatre and reported it to dispatch. Thanks to his call, police officers quickly responded and apprehended the intoxicated driver who was also in possession of a prohibited weapon. #AboveAndBeyond #CityofDurango

Be warned: you may suffer from cuteness overload after watching this video (how can you not say “Awww” after watching it?). Shoutout to Senior Lifeguard McKenna Armstrong with the Parks and Recreation Department! McKenna secured a Pay It Forward public health grant to offer free BIPOC swim lessons. Her senior thesis inspired this project, exploring how institutional racism and intergenerational trauma limit swim lesson access for minority populations, leading to higher drowning rates. Alongside other instructors, McKenna provided essential water safety skills to community members aged 18 months to 25 years, helping them gain confidence in and around water. #AboveAndBeyond #CityofDurango

At a special council meeting Tuesday, city staff presented the 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, which for the first time since 2018 had zero findings. The annual audit provides citizens, legislators, and others with the reasonable assurance they need that the city's financial assertions can be relied upon and that it is efficiently and effectively carrying out its responsibilities. “Each year just keeps getting better and better and better.” said Paul Kane, audit partner with the city's independent audit firm, Eide Bailly. “It’s been awesome to watch the growth of the accounting team.” For more information please see the agenda packet for Tuesday's meeting, https://lnkd.in/g7Zstbvv
