We caught up with the winner of our 2023 Peter Gardiner Grant, Gyasi Boisson, to hear his reflections of the CHC Safety & Quality Summit one year on. Gyasi said, “I had a fantastic time at last year’s summit. Not only did I learn a huge amount from the experts on stage and those who hosted workshop sessions, I made connections with industry leaders in aviation, energy and safety. “Our shared conversations have deepened my appreciation of the critical role safety plays in our industry, and I learned a lot about the role I have to play in nurturing a strong safety culture.” “For anyone thinking of applying – do it! The Peter Gardiner Grant is a great talking point on my CV and helped me to secure my summer internship. I will be applying many of the concepts I learned in my new role.” Gyasi has accepted a summer internship at Air Partner, after which, he will return to Lewis University. At the end of May, at Mungalalu Truscott Airbase, a remote World War Two base in Western Australia, CHC Helicopter and our customer Shell came together with OSA, the Australian Defence Force and the North Kimberley Airport- Formerly Mungalalu Truscott Airbase- team and the local Aboriginal WGAC Community to support the Blue Tree Project.   The charitable organisation encourages conversations about mental health by painting trees a bright blue shade, seen by all that visit the remote airport on their rotating tours away from their loved ones. The trees are a visual reminder to check in on one another.   The event began with a traditional Welcome to Country Smoking Ceremony led by WGAC community members, a spiritual cleansing for all participants and a way to ward off evil spirits and enable guests’ time on their land to be safe. For all who participated, it was an emotional moment.   Following the smoking ceremony, participants took it in turns to paint a dead tree blue, followed by the addition of white hand prints.   Cameron Dixon, Head of CHC Australia, said: “Thank you to the WGAC community for inviting us to participate and the North Kimberley Airport team for facilitating this touching event. Open conversations about mental health are crucial to foster a culture where everyone feels safe to share and seek support. I’m proud of the team for taking part and for their dedication to taking care of one another and our community”.   If you would like to learn more about the Blue Tree Project, visit https://lnkd.in/ek9tNbhj

Over the past few weeks, Rio Garde do Sul has experienced record-breaking floods, devastating local communities and forcing 24,000 people to leave their homes. During this crisis, our Brazilian team took swift action to deliver vital emergency aid. Across ten days, team members voluntarily flew 11 missions, coordinated by Petrobras, to provide essential supplies. The missions transported a total of 23 tonnes of medicines, food, drinking water, blankets and hospital supplies to the frontline emergency response teams. Thomas Burke, Chief Executive Officer, who was in Brazil last week with the team, said: “I am incredibly proud of our team’s commitment and willingness to lend a helping hand. Our thoughts remain with the people and communities affected by the flooding and we will continue to work closely with Petrobras to provide support wherever it is needed.” Gilson Caputo Jr, Operation Director in Brazil, added: “The fact we have been able to play a small part in alleviating suffering fills me with immense pride. It wouldn’t have been possible without our team members volunteering their time and going above and beyond to do what’s right. Thank you to everyone who has been able to make this happen – both in Brazil and across the organisation globally.” Although the immediate demand for emergency air support has decreased, CHC Brazil and Petrobras continue to actively monitor the situation. #CHCBrazil #HEMS #EmergencyResponse #EmergencyMedicalCare
