It highlights sustainable solutions, climate updates, and local climate stories. Speakers at the event included Victoria Riskin, president and founder of BlueDot Living, Marianne Partridge, editor-in-chief of the Santa Barbara Independent, and CEC's CEO and executive director, Sigrid Wright. "One of the principles promoted by the Community Environmental Council’s (CEC) Ecological Framework for Revitalizing Santa Barbara’s City Core is creating a rich and abundant mix of nature — plants, trees, birds, and insects. The preference is for native plants because these require less water and less maintenance, and because they are hardier." Read from Dennis Allen in the Santa Barbara Independent about the importance of utilizing mini forests in the City of Santa Barbara to improve our air quality, protect us from heat, and beautify our spaces: https://lnkd.in/gRqXuXmv Plus! The Community Environmental Council and Blue Tomorrow, LLC conducted our first session of soil sampling in Guadalupe! At the peak of the agricultural season, it's important to begin testing for pesticide drift, particularly in areas where community members use the space for school or outdoor activities in local parks. As part of the Guadalupe Air Monitoring Project, we initiated testing for pesticide drift/exposure in common community spaces. Over the next few months, we will analyze these samples chemically and conduct a second soil sampling session open to some community members. Follow us to stay updated and attend any upcoming events! Results from the soil sampling and continuous air quality monitoring in Guadalupe will be shared in October at our second Family Day event.
