The California Policy Lab is hiring a U.C. Graduate Student Researcher to join our labor team and this role can be fulfilled remotely. The GSR would have the opportunity to join several in-process projects focused on labor and employment and also have the potential to propose potential projects of their own choosing — a model that has worked well for 3 previous GSR students: https://lnkd.in/gqRm94HX

"In California, the 30-day delinquency rate on credit cards is nearing 5% — something not seen since late 2009 around the end of the Great Recession, according to the California Policy Lab." "Why are the eligibility and take-up rates so low? One likely reason is the so-called “student rule,” which was enacted in 1977 to prohibit college students nationwide from accessing SNAP unless they meet one of several “exemptions,” such as working 20 or more hours per week or parenting a young child without sufficient support." In this new blog post, Jennifer Hogg, Research Manager at the California Policy Lab, dives into CPL's recent report on #CalFresh and college students and the extra eligibility rules students face: https://lnkd.in/e2qcRJTi

📢 NEW REPORT: How many California college students are eligible for CalFresh, and how many of these eligible students participate in the program? Among University of California undergraduates, about 1 in 4 eligible students participated in CalFresh in 2019, and among eligible California Community College students, about 1 in 3 participated. Professor Jesse Rothstein, one of the co-principal investigators of this research, explains: "Our goal is that this research will help our partners and policymakers in their work to close that gap.” https://lnkd.in/gd3ic9mN

Join us! The California Policy Lab is hosting a short webinar on June 11th at 3pm to discuss findings from our forthcoming report that estimates how many California Community College (CCC) students and how many University of California (UC) undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to receive CalFresh benefits, and among that group of eligible students, how many actually participate in the program. This report is the first of its kind to use linked data to arrive at these more precise estimates and we're excited to share the findings: https://lnkd.in/gbH7UreN
