WHERE TRADITION MEETS INNOVATION 🏁 Browning Day was given the opportunity to design a new control tower with additional program elements of hospitality and media in the early nineties. The creation of the IndyCar League in the mid-nineties provided a pause in our work, and the opportunity for the League to get established. During that hiatus, we happened to have a conversation with Hulman-George family which explored the historical importance of the Pagoda to the brickyard. From that conversation, the curiosity of a modern interpretation was born. Merging tradition with innovation, our work reinterpreted a traditional pagoda form while embracing the modern form of the 50’s tower to give rise to the Pagoda as we know it - perhaps one of the most iconic buildings in motorsport. Standing tall as a symbol of the importance of heritage, the Pagoda marks the start-finish line as the Cathedral of Speed. As we gear up for this weekend's race, join us in remembering the legacy of racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway “Humbled to have played a small part in making memories for fans around the world. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is truly a special place.” - Jonathan Hess

Exceptional design prioritizes the holistic health and wellbeing of individuals and communities alike. By considering physical, mental, and emotional needs of occupants and pursuing sustainability in our work, design becomes a powerful tool to encourage flourishing, growth, and connection.     First Internet Bank's 'The Backyard' reimagines urban landscapes, offering employees a dynamic outdoor sanctuary to recharge, connect, and thrive. Situated atop a parking garage in downtown Fishers, the 20,000 square foot space is designed to cater to various needs, with distinct zones for quiet reflection, social gatherings, and recreational activities. From private circular seating areas to open plaza spaces for team bonding, 'The Backyard' provides a versatile environment to suit the varied needs of employees.    The Center for Innovation is an ecosystem designed to nurture the wellbeing of its inhabitants. With its strategic location amidst a 30-acre woodland and innovative landscape features like rain gardens and wetland ponds, The Center offers occupants a rejuvenating environment that fosters creativity, productivity, and overall wellbeing. From providing centralized 'incubating' spaces where ideas can flourish to flexible work areas that encourage movement and connection, every aspect of The Center's design is tailored to support the holistic health of its users. The Heritage Group   While the project achieved LEED certification, The Center was the first project in Indiana to achieve SITES certification. Pursuit of SITES required a commitment to restoring the wetland and previously developed site at a level far beyond what LEED calls for. A large portion of the design was focused on managing stormwater including a new blend of porous asphalt pavement, rain gardens, vegetated swales, filtering forebays, planted littoral edged ponds, and the enhancement of an existing wetland.    At Browning Day, a wellness-oriented design approach means creating environments which empower individuals to thrive, while also honoring and regenerating the natural world around us.    American Society of Landscape Architects U.S. Green Building Council #WLAM2024 #DesigningforWellbeing #InnovativeDesign

Riverside Promenade is a testament to the transformative power of landscape architecture in fostering community connection. Running along the east side of the park from 16th Street to the 29th Street bridge, the promenade anchors a network of pathways and popular gathering spaces, including the White River Trail, Taggart Memorial Amphitheatre and Central Canal Trail. More than just a walkway, this cultural heritage corridor bridges the past and present, weaving together the diverse stories and traditions of Riverside's historic neighborhoods.     Throughout the planning and design process, Browning Day prioritized community input, ensuring that every voice was heard and woven into the fabric of the final design. We invite the community—both in Riverside and greater Indianapolis—to continue engaging with us, shaping the ongoing evolution of our shared spaces. Let's walk together, embracing connection and community every step of the way. #WLAM2024 #RiversidePromenade American Society of Landscape Architects
