We wish Chris Boryan, our Director of Development, warm wishes as he prepares to take pride, take part, and take the lead in Leadership Washington County's Class #38! “I’m very much looking forward to learning more about Washington County and connecting with those who serve in the community across the spectrum of the private sector, non-profit, education, and in government. I’m grateful for Brook Lane’s support of Leadership Washington County and my upcoming journey in this year’s exciting program.” – Chris More about Class #38, here: https://ow.ly/LjsM50SAKCr We also celebrate recent Class #37 graduate Toby Long, one of Brook Lane’s WCPS school-based therapists. “This experience with Leadership Washington County was an invaluable one. There was so much to learn about the Washington County community. I have walked away from this year with a newfound understanding of our county’s vision and direction in human services, economic development, governmental policy, and how to make a richer arts and entertainment scene. Beyond all of that, I have made so many connections with other members of our community and feel that I will have lifelong friends. I plan to stay connected with leadership as a member of their graduate/alumni committee. I am really looking forward to the continued professional development in this new role. A huge THANK YOU to Brook Lane Senior Leadership and especially to my direct supervisor, Karley Hensley, for their support and investment in my participating in Leadership Washington County class #37 – Best Class Ever!” - Toby Additionally, our Director of Marketing, Julie Herman (Class #36), was recently appointed as a board member for the Leadership Washington County Board of Directors. “I was honored to be asked to serve as a board member for Leadership Washington County. There is no other local organization that educates, connects, and supports leaders in this county better than LWC! I look forward to playing a part in ensuring that the learning and partnerships continue and promoting this impactful organization.” - Julie Congratulations to each of our Brook Lane leaders in their LWC experiences! #Brooklane #LWC

You're Not Alone: Climbing the Mountain of Grief Losing a loved one, especially a child, can feel like the world has shifted beneath your feet. It's an isolating experience, and navigating work while grappling with such deep pain can feel like scaling a mountain in a blizzard. The good news: You're not alone. Here are some tips to help you navigate this challenging climb: Acknowledge the Climb: Your grief is real and deserves attention. Don't be afraid to let your manager know you're facing a difficult time. Self-Care is Your Gear: Just like packing essentials for a climb, focus on taking care of yourself. Make time for breaks, healthy meals, and activities that bring you comfort. Talk to your manager about adjustments that might help you manage your workload. Find Your Support Group: Connecting with others who understand your loss can be invaluable. Consider joining a support group or exploring online resources dedicated to bereaved parents. Communication is Key: Be open with your manager about your needs. Talk about workload adjustments, emotional support, or time off that might help you manage. Don't Hesitate to Seek Professional Support: Therapists can provide tools for managing your emotions and coping with grief. Don't hesitate to seek help if you feel overwhelmed. The pain of losing a child is a lifelong journey. But with self-care, support, and the cherished memories of your loved one, there is a path forward. Consider talking honestly (and as openly as you're comfortable) with your manager and colleagues. They may be able to offer support you didn't know existed. While the mountain of grief will always be a part of your landscape, with the right support, you can find peace. For information on therapy options: 301-733-0330 #BereavedParentsMonth #BrookLane
