Leaders emerging from everywhere, empowered to excel anywhere. Join us as we put education to work for college students.
About us
Braven empowers promising young people on their path to college graduation and strong first jobs. We believe that our next generation of leaders will emerge from everywhere, so we take a particular interest in ensuring our talent network is filled with people from underrepresented backgrounds. To do so, Braven partners with educational institutions, volunteer professionals, and employers to offer a rigorous and relevant career readiness course, that is followed by robust campus-based alumni programming. The course is targeted as a part of the sophomore or transfer junior experience. Through The Braven Accelerator, a hybrid online and in-person course, Braven Fellows will get: --Skills: learn the hard and soft skills companies and organizations want and practice them in mock professional settings. --Experience: apply skills to solve real-world challenges with a cohort of peers. --Coaching: receive small group and one-on-one coaching from a local young professional to achieve personal and professional goals. --Networking: expand one’s circle of champions to include motivated peers, supportive adults, and respected thought-leaders. The Braven Accelerator is principally facilitated by volunteer Leadership Coaches who come from all walks of life and all believe that our nation is better off when a person’s starting point does not limit their opportunities. Leadership Coaches guide our nation’s future leaders through this meaningful experience. At the same time, they develop and practice leadership and management skills that accelerate their own careers. They also develop their own network and deepen their connection to the community in which they live and/or work. This unique, high-impact volunteer opportunity employs a primarily virtual coaching model. From The Braven Accelerator will come a generation of leaders as diverse as our future demands.

Braven volunteer Leadership Coaches (LCs) have a profound impact on our Fellows in the Accelerator. They provide students with personalized guidance during the semester course on leadership development, goal setting, and career exploration. Since we launched Braven at The City College of New York in Spring 2023, we’ve had several Leadership Coaches like Tiffany Duncan, Stephen Grove, and Matthew Ziegler who’ve volunteered for consecutive semesters. Immense gratitude to these LCs (and many others!) – for your dedication and the support, guidance, wisdom, and expertise you provide your cohort of students! Swipe to see what Tiffany, Stephen, and Matthew had to say about their Leadership Coach experience. If you are interested in getting involved, apply to become a Leadership Coach by tomorrow, July 14 at braven.org/volunteer. #BeBraven #BravenVolunteer

Empowering diverse, homegrown college students with the skills, networks, confidence, and experiences to break down systemic barriers and embrace their path towards a meaningful career and life
What a rewarding experience advocating for students' futures alongside San Jose State University Braven Fellows and Congress! Yama Sekandar is interning at the Security Exchange Commission post his internships with Braven and the USDA, while Dexter Allen transitions from Stanford University's particle accelerator lab to Voltus. Both are first-gen students from the Bay Area, who were in winning teams for their respective Capstone Challenges. We know what it takes for our students to win. Our focus on College Transparency Act and Opportunities for Success Act aims to empower students nationwide in making informed career choices for economic mobility. We also urge for increased funding for Title III/V and Postsecondary Student Success Grants. Encouraging career-focused language in these programs will help universities and colleges prioritize economic outcomes for underserved populations. Thank you to Sen Alex Padilla, Sen Laphonza Butler, Rep Lofgren, and Rep Nancy Pelowsi staff and offices. Excited to see the Congress' next steps in advancing these critical bills to benefit students and enhance their career prospects. Thank you to Shannon Hossinger, Abdurrahman Ajeigbe, and Ryan Ward for an incredible day on the Hill! #EducationAdvocacy #CareerDevelopment #EconomicMobility.

Last week, my Braven colleague, Kate Shoemaker, and Gilles Seulio, a Fellow at The City College of New York joined me on a productive trip to Capitol Hill, where we connected with New York representatives! It was great to connect with Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer’s teams. Both Senators have supported CUNY schools and other state colleges by finding ways to invest in quality higher education for all New York students. Rep. Espaillat's office highlighted his focus on educational opportunities leading to fulfilling careers, which is also a significant focus for us. Overall, this trip was packed with insightful conversations and the potential for future collaboration! We appreciate our representatives’ commitment to our state.
