🪫 Time to recharge 🔋 With summer in full swing, Bitly is taking some time off. From July 1 until July 5, we observe our “Mid-Year Recharge Week” for employees to enjoy working on... not working. At Bitly, we believe stepping back and taking a break is key to a physically and mentally healthy workforce. To stay fresh and come back refreshed, we will recharge as a company to return for an ambitious and productive rest of the year. During this recharge, our Customer Support and Engineering teams (and this Social Media Manager) will be available with limited staff, so please expect minor delays. Urgent requests will be prioritized during this time. We deeply appreciate those teams continuing to support our users and products.

Beep. Beep. Beep! The barcode turns 50 while also turning a corner. The sound of barcodes passing across the grocery scanner is so familiar these days, but on this day 50 years ago, that "beep" you're now hearing in your head was beep-ed for the first time at 8:01 am at a Marsh supermarket in Troy, Ohio. The item that launched a revolution in sales and inventory tracking? A 10-pack of Wrigley's bubblegum. The technology is so ubiquitous today that we take it for granted. The simple barcode scan from the factory to the warehouse to retailers has revolutionized supply chain management and moved the global economy forward. But the beep is taking an incredible leap. Already, the stripes of the traditional barcode are being replaced by the maze-like squares of a type of QR Code called 2D barcodes. Why? Connected packaging. The checkout line used to be the end for the barcode, but now it’s just the beginning. As consumers, we want more from our purchasing experiences, including product information and sourcing, loyalty programs, special offers, and digital experiences that take us beyond the box. Companies leverage connected packaging through 2D barcodes because they carry more information than traditional barcodes. It’s a revolution in retail already underway. At the center of it all, you guessed it, Bitly. From GS1 US-standard 2D barcodes integrated with Short Links, SMS solutions, and Landing Pages, the Connections Platform is your connected packaging pal! So pay attention in the next few years. The "beep" will remain, but the code and what it unlocks for consumers and companies will never be the same. QR Codes: Everything Everywhere All at Once. If you’re noticing QR Codes on your tortilla chips, shampoo, clothing, gluten-free flour, pet toys, hot dogs—everything—more than you ever used to, it’s intentional. Marketers in the retail and CPG industries used them 88% more in 2023 than 2022, and that trend is only poised to continue in 2024. Want to know why? 🖤 💚 Juneteenth 💛 ❤️ Our DEI Team recently hosted a powerful and thought-provoking company-wide event to educate on and recognize Juneteenth's importance and impact. "We recognize a momentous day in history, Juneteenth, which celebrates the 1865 arrival of Union troops in Texas on June 19th, announcing to the last enslaved Black/African Americans, the Emancipation Proclamation (issued two years earlier) and their freedom from the shackles of slavery," said Jackie Cureton, Bitly's Chief Diversity Officer. "As we continue to examine the legacy of slavery and its effects on modern America and the world, we invite you to reflect on the continued impact and the many forms of slavery still being carried out today and as Fannie Lou Hamer said, “Nobody's free until everyone is free." We hosted a special guest, multidimensional creative Lewiee Blaze, a healer, conversation Kickstarter and author who uses his art as a platform to bring people together, especially those who disagree, to spread more love. Lewiee sees a world working together instead of against each other. Some key messages he shared during the conversation were: * "We should be intentional about what we put into the world and how we treat each other." * "Allyship has to be genuine and requires action." * "Self-care is important, and the ‘the power of no’ing’ is that it is okay to say no."  * "There is great power in collaboration and holding space for conversation. We can disagree without disengaging." At Bitly, we're not shy about leading and engaging in difficult but necessary conversations. "It is important for us to recognize Juneteenth, not only for its historical significance and spreading awareness and education, but as a way to reflect on progress for racial equality globally," said Jaina Patel (Chudasama), our Senior Manager of DEI. As a note, Bitly is closed today, Wednesday, June 19th, to observe Juneteenth. Our Customer Support and Engineering teams will be available with limited staff, so please expect minor delays. Urgent requests will be prioritized during this time. We deeply appreciate those teams continuing to support our users and products. Ain't no bad joke, like a (Bitly) dad joke Slip on your socks with sandals. click your tongs, and fire up the lawnmower You've heard of dueling pianos, but get ready for dueling dads Devin O'Toole + Daniel Wiersema, who are fully prepared for (and impervious to) your eye rolls. Groan along with these super niche Bitly product jokes, perfect for use at your next BBQ(R). We're impressed. No. Wait. We're Bitly.

🏃🏼 🚶🏾♂️ 🚵🏻♀️ 🛼 💃🏽 Movement is mental health. 🧠 ❤️🩹 Every May, our Bitizens participate in the Global Catalyst for Movement challenge, a company-wide event to encourage physical activity of all types and empower charitable giving for organizations (Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) and Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF)) that support mental health globally. Any movement counts, from walking to running, biking, hiking, and even dancing, Bitly collectively logged over 12,000 miles of motion. Mental and physical health are closely connected. Research shows that people who exercise regularly have better mental and emotional well-being and lower rates of mental illness. We offer this challenge to highlight these benefits alongside our robust mental and physical healthcare offerings. Learn more about our Core Values and working at Bitly ---> https://lnkd.in/gte5knwp
