Bicycle Health and other virtual care stakeholders have sent a letter to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) urging the agency to provide guidance to the pharmacy community, warning against considering geography a “red flag” when prescriptions are provided during telehealth visits. “Telehealth providers and pharmacists need more clarity – not complexity – from DEA." mHealthIntelligence https://lnkd.in/g7wNWaz8

This month, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) took steps to expand access to opioid use disorder treatment through its new final rule, which includes a provision that permanently allows for the initiation of treatment (methadone and buprenorphine) via telehealth. The prevalence of OUD across the country is estimated to be somewhere between 2.04% to 2.77%. For people in custody, this figure increases five-fold: 15% of the incarcerated population has OUD.
