On Break the Glass Ceiling Day, my hope is that we take action and spark conversations that dismantle the 'traditional' definitions of success that often hold women back. We need to champion individual values and standards, and ask the tough questions like, “How do we see women as equals and role models for ALL - not just other women? How do we make space for diverse, even conflicting, definitions of success?" To celebrate the inaugural Break The Glass Ceiling Day, our President Jennifer DaSilva shared the importance of the day and how she's breaking glass ceilings with LBBonline - Little Black Book. https://lnkd.in/eVQP25Pz

In honor of today, May 15th, as "Break The Glass Ceiling Day", I’m committing to connect 20 women to advertising opportunities this year. The barriers to enter our industry are already high, so I want to be part of the positive change and help more women enter this incredible industry. If you're interested in connecting, don't hesitate to reach out. Want to join me in breaking the glass ceilings in other women’s lives? Share my post or take the photo below to craft your own pledge. #BTGCD

"The glass ceiling will go away when women help other women break through that ceiling." - Indra Nooyi The above quote is not only statistically true but I can attest through my own personal experiences that women can achieve greater success when they are seen and empowered by other women. As a Black Woman and Art Director navigating the advertising industry, I am no stranger to imposter syndrome and struggling to find my voice amongst my counterparts. I have, however, been fortunate to be surrounded by empowering colleagues, friends, and mentors within this industry that have not only given me the confidence to advocate for myself, but have also empowered me by sharing opportunities and insights that have allowed me to grow in my career. As I reflect on the women that have contributed to my growth in not only this industry, but in the workforce overall, I am reminded that they too faced roadblocks and systemic challenges that they've had to "break through" in order to gain the courage to support others to do so as well. It’s time to Break the Glass Ceiling. The often-invisible systemic barriers that exist to keep women and underrepresented communities from professional advancement. The World Economic Forum’s 2021 Global Gender Gap Report estimates that it will take an average of 135.6 years for women and men to reach parity on a range of factors worldwide. As a result, VML and Luminary are dedicating May 15th, (which is the 135th day of the year) to uplift and empower women to break the glass ceilings in their lives that are holding them back. Join me today, May 15th, as we celebrate #BTGCD with VML and Berlin Cameron and explore how we can collectively break the glass ceiling to redefine success on our own terms! Today is the inaugural Break The Glass Ceiling Day and I wanted to create space on my LinkedIn page for my network to share how they can commit to helping women break the glass ceilings in their lives.   I’ll go first..... I pledge to encourage more of the women in my life to own their narratives and continue to cultivate a space where they feel fully supported. Thank you Jennifer DaSilva for getting such an important movement on everyone's radar!
