Public trust in AVs is essential to their acceptance, and the AV industry must earn and maintain that trust. We recognize we have important work to do, which is why the Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association is unveiling the #TRUSTPrinciples and new initiatives to reinforce AV safety, transparency and responsible integration into communities. We are encouraged that CA #SB915 will not move forward, thereby preserving AVs' safety and accessibility opportunities for millions of Californians. Cities are critical partners for AV companies, and the AV industry remains committed to fostering close and collaborative relationships with city officials, local law enforcement, and state lawmakers and regulators to ensure the technology’s benefits become a reality. We urge lawmakers to REJECT #SB915. Over 70 disability, business & other local orgs have raised significant concerns about #SB915 as a backdoor ban on AVs, preventing Californians from seeing the technology’s safety & accessibility benefits. Our letter outlining the significant equity, safety and economic concerns with this backdoor ban on AVs: https://lnkd.in/eZ_a8Uzs

#SB915 would slam the brakes on AVs, hurting accessibility for 44% of Californians. The legislation remains equivalent to requiring a different driver’s license for different cities – at least 15 of the largest cities plus 86 additional municipalities. If a city passes a local ordinance that harms AV deployment, that prevents access to all other Californians in the area. Take a look at how SB915 hurts AV access for residents of the Los Angeles area, San Francisco and the East Bay, and San Jose. We urge lawmakers to REJECT this backdoor ban on AVs. Over 70 disability, business, and other local organizations as well as state lawmakers have raised significant concerns about SB 915’s ability to create a patchwork of regulations, preventing Californians from seeing the technology’s safety and accessibility benefits.
