Philanthropy is Fueling a University of Exceptional Impact

About us

The ASU Foundation is a private nonprofit organization that identifies, encourages and engages private supporters to advance the success of Arizona State University as a New American University. The foundation works with donors to determine their motivations and aspirations and matches those passions with investment opportunities at ASU. The foundation was awarded the four-star rating for 10 consecutive years by Charity Navigator, one of the nation’s leading independent nonprofit evaluator. We especially welcome candidates who are eager to apply best practices in fundraising towards cultivating a culture of philanthropy throughout the ASU community.

  • Cordelia Candelaria, Regents Professor Emeritus in the School of Transborder Studies, may not teach in a classroom regularly, but she still educates everyone she meets who will listen. Five years ago, in pursuit of making Arizona State University classroom concepts and theories applicable to real-life situations, Candelaria made the founding donation for the PULSE program. PULSE stands for People-Power Undergoing Life Sustaining Education. This program provides workshops for ASU faculty and students to integrate fact-based reasoning into their analysis and decision-making in areas such as diversity, law and civics. We’re grateful for the philanthropy and vision shown by Candelaria, as well as many of the faculty and staff at ASU. Thank you!

  • As part of the ASU Gammage Journey Home program, seven incarcerated women performed in front of 22 audience members, ranging from jail staff to ASU Gammage donors. The room oscillated from laughter and joy to tears and heartache, while both the inmates and audience members found common ground in a rare moment of vulnerability shared amongst strangers. Launched in 2001, Journey Home is an intensive four-week program designed to raise the awareness and consciousness of incarcerated women through creative writing, expressive movement, storytelling and visual arts. The program empowers these women to create different lives for themselves in the future. Thank you to Jenny Norton, Bob Ramsey and Union Pacific Foundation for sponsoring this year’s Journey Home program. Read the full story at https://ow.ly/yBgN50ShxoR

  • We are saddened to share that Elva (Wingfield) Coor passed away on July 2. She will be remembered for her many contributions to the community and to Arizona State University. “Elva Coor was a warm, wise and generous business and community leader who saw need and took action to become a catalyst for enduring change at ASU and in our state,” ASU President Michael Crow said. Together with her husband, former ASU President Lattie F. Coor Jr., Elva donated to several ASU units and programs and was instrumental in introducing ASU to donors through community enrichment programs. In addition, the ASU School of Public Affairs is home to the Coor Leadership Collection and has a chair position in the Coors’ name. • “In the third grade, I would always watch things about infectious diseases, like Mystery Diagnosis. So I always knew I was interested in biology. Now, I'm looking at pursuing a career as an immunologist. I'm currently deciding whether or not I want to go down the medical clinical route or go down that research route. Outside of classes, I work in a research lab studying oncolytic biotherapy.” Kameron Cochrane is double majoring in microbiology and chemistry. His ambitious pursuit of higher education has been supported by the Edward and Linda Birge Scholarship, which you can contribute to here: https://ow.ly/HB1H50Shxa5 Thank you to the Birges for their generosity!

  • “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without donors, there wouldn’t be scholarships available to help students cultivate their skills and grow professionally. I hope that one day I will be able to pay it forward to future students who are facing financial struggles like I did.” Sydney Stephens is an ASU alumna with a bachelor’s degree in medical studies. She received the ASU Family Scholarship as well as several others. You can read more about the ASU Family Scholarship and support students like Stephens here: https://ow.ly/1x0e50S1jcP

  • First generation graduate Cindy Rogel Bahena has risen through the ranks at Intel since graduating from Arizona State University in 2021. Today, she’s a part of a small team creating tools to develop advanced semiconductor microchips. But it wasn’t always an easy journey for Rogel Bahena. She knew she wanted to be an engineer from a young age, but she didn’t have Latina engineers to look up to as role models. That changed when she arrived at ASU where she joined the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Read more about Rogel Bahena’s journey in ASU Thrive magazine ➡️ https://ow.ly/yzKp50S1j5c Consider supporting students like Rogel Bahena by contributing to the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers: https://ow.ly/VFWO50S1j5e
