Education That Empowers
About us
The vision of the Arlington Public Schools is to be an equitable educational community where all learners feel a sense of belonging, experience growth and joy, and are empowered to shape their own futures and contribute to a better world. Arlington is a community with a rich history. Once known as Menotomy, it was the site of the bloodiest fighting on the first day of the American Revolution, April 19, 1775. The town was incorporated as West Cambridge in 1807, when it was set aside from Cambridge and a portion of the former town of Charlestown. The town was renamed Arlington in 1867, to honor those buried in Arlington National Cemetery. In the nineteenth century, Arlington was primarily an agricultural community, with a thriving ice industry centered around Spy Pond and mills located along Mill Brook. Schools: 1 pre-school; 7 elementary (K-5) schools; 1 grade 6 school; 1 middle school (7-8); 1 high school.

PRIDE Day culminates June’s PRIDE Month, and commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising on June 28th. Stonewall events inspired LGBTQIA+ activism and organizing that grew into liberation movements. Though PRIDE marches originally began in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, they have spread nationally and internationally as celebratory demonstrations of support, inclusivity, and positive visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Helen Keller Day celebrates her incredible life and achievements. Helen Keller attended Perkins School for the Blind and was an impactful advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, promoting state-funded programs for the deaf, blind, and deaf-blind, including education, job training and placement. This day has recently expanded into Deaf Blind Awareness Week to raise awareness of people with multisensory impairments, and to continue Helen’s legacy of advocacy. #ArlingtonMA
