“Being able to see traces of the people who cross to go to another city,  things that they leave along the way, the experiences,  the stories… that is definitely something unique here.” A recent #DiscoveringArizona trip to Douglas, AZ highlighted the city’s tight-knit community, influenced in part by its distinctive geographical location. This border town weaves together American and Mexican cultures, creating a shared heritage that strengthens the connections among its residents.

Sierra Vista’s strong bond between community members has been instrumental in propelling its growth, while also significantly boosting economic success through sports tourism initiatives. During a recent #DiscoveringArizona stop in the city, we heard a lot about "family" as a deeply cherished, core value for residents, who take immense pride in the place they’re building and its surrounding area.

Our #DiscoveringArizona tour stop here afforded the chance to connect with the community’s resilient work ethic and understand how building from the ground up has fostered a deep sense of camaraderie and collaboration here. Exploring Bisbee during our #DiscoveringArizona journey was a delightful blend of funky fashion, delectable desserts and a dazzling downtown experience. Classic Rock Couture offers vibrant style and creativity. Bisbee Good Cakes greets visitors with a comforting aroma and irresistible treats. Engaging discussions at Bisbee Royale underscored an interconnected community spirit that permeates this community and much of the state.

A recent #DiscoveringArizona trip landed us in the border city of Douglas, a desert oasis in southeastern Arizona. Through exploration and conversations with community members, it easy to see why Douglas was recently named one of the nation’s best “micropolitan” areas, offering a unique blend of art, culture and economic significance in promoting cross-border trade. Conversations at the Border Arts Corridor (BAC) Gallery shined light on locals cultivating multicultural arts programming that explores the complexities of borderlands communities.
