About us
Established in 1985 and based in Washington, DC, the Arab American Institute (AAI) is a non-profit, nonpartisan national leadership organization. AAI was created to nurture and encourage the direct participation of Arab Americans in political and civic life in the United States. AAI represents the policy and community interests of Arab Americans throughout the United States and strives to promote Arab American participation in the U.S. electoral system. The Institute focuses on two areas: campaigns and elections and policy formation and research. AAI strives to serve as a central resource to government officials, the media, political leaders and community groups on a variety of public policy issues that concern Arab Americans and U.S.–Arab relations. As the only national organization that promotes Arab American participation in the U.S. electoral system, AAI has developed a host of services, from voter education to liaison with the national parties, to support the community’s activities. We are also the leading policy and research organization on domestic and policy concerns of Arab Americans. Through ongoing meetings with members of the Administration and Congress, a variety of publications and issue briefs, media and direct member mobilization, AAI maintains a strong presence among policy makers who impact our issues.

Art is integral to connection and artists serve as cultural bearers helping us to better understand ourselves and our world. Their art is informed by their experience and identity, and Arab American artists’ talents can provide a healing space for Arab Americans, while educating others about the community’s heritage, narrative, hopes, and dreams. Hear from award-winning Arab American artists about their chosen form of expression, the role their art has played in providing hope, and their response to the crisis of world-wide injustice and inequity. April is Arab American Heritage Month. AAI is recognizing it by sharing a story each week of an Arab American who has made a meaningful contribution. Joyce Ajlouny, General Secretary of the American Friends Service Committee https://lnkd.in/eHxyPvDy

Arab American Heritage Month is normally a celebratory time, a time of sharing our culture and contributions. However, with the unprecedented crisis in Gaza, there is little room for celebration this year. Instead, many Arab Americans are sharing the story of the Palestinian struggle, the story of Palestinian resilience, and the call for Palestinian freedom. For us, the Palestinian story is the Arab American story, and the Arab American story is the American story. Join us all month and hear from some of our most cherished voices who continue to serve and speak with pride for what is right. We hope the public, the media, and our elected officials join us for these events to really hear our community. Our first event is April 15. Register: bit.ly/AAHM41524

The Pilgrimage for Peace is in Delaware today walking for each and every child to be granted safety, comfort, and freedom. Today’s intention is Cherishing Children. Over 12,000 children have been killed in Gaza since October 7th. Thousands have suffered life-altering injuries. Thousands have been orphaned. Every child in Gaza is living in terror, there is nowhere safe, there is not enough food. There is no childhood for children in Gaza. #PilgrimageforPeace #CeasefireNow

This morning, the Arab American Insitute joined faith leaders, activists, and artists representing over 30 organizations on a pilgrimage beginning at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Rooted in the long tradition of peace walks, the group will travel for a week, bringing the message of ceasefire to the White House and urging President Biden to call for an end to the war on Gaza, unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza, and the release of the remaining Israeli civilian hostages and Palestinian prisoners held without charges or due processs.
