Mental illness affects everyone, across race, culture and genders, but minorities experience disparities in mental health outcomes. Factors include stigma, access to care, and social determinants of health. July was established as Minority Mental Health Month in 2008 to highlight the unique needs and challenges of people of color. Learn more here https://loom.ly/9oPgfgk #mentalhealth #NMMHAM

Congratulations to Bob Walker on his 31st workiversary! Bob is our longest-term employee and is currently our IT director. He's the first one we call when we need a new form in our Electronic Health Record, or get a fishy scam email, or have any sort of technical question. We were lucky to have Bob to figure things out when we suddenly had to switch to virtual care during the pandemic! Bob says the company's mission and culture, his colleagues and work relationships, and a good work-life balance are what has kept him with us! Outside of work, he's a proud hockey dad and a new grandfather -- to twins. 💚 Bob - thank you for all your years of service and here's to many more! #AKBH50 #mentalhealth #servingAlaskans #don'tretireyet

In 2020, we became a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center! The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration developed the CCBHC model to ensure access to coordinated comprehensive behavioral health care. CCBHCs are required to serve anyone who requests care for mental health or substance use, regardless of their ability to pay, place of residence, or age – including developmentally appropriate care for children and youth. To become a CCBHC, Alaska Behavioral Health had to meet stringent standards for access to service, quality of care, and care coordination. We added primary care, increased access to crisis services, and grew our staff, including incorporating peer support specialists. Our July 2020 e-newsletter highlighted this expansion: https://loom.ly/kz-03q4 More than 3 million Americans are now served through CCBHC's, with 79% of CCBHC's nationwide reporting they serve more clients since becoming a CCBHC.
