Over 300,000 residents have been affected by Caregato dam breach in #Colombia this past year. Because of the intense flooding, 49% of the population lacks access to safe drinking water. Americares deployed a team from our Colombia office to the disaster area. The team has been conducting assessments in 22 communities to evaluate the needs of the health infrastructure in the affected zones, delivering hygiene kits to support the displaced population, and establish how #Americares can best provide assistance. We have created 6 water distribution points providing clean drinking water to more than 1,200 people daily and are continuing to distribute hygiene and WASH kits. Quality health care is important for any community. In Eswatini, a country in southern Africa, local health organizations have struggled to procure essential medicines for residents experiencing every day ailments. This challenge impacts the health and well-being of countless individuals. With support from our gracious donors, #Americares and our local partner have been able to make a significant difference by providing lifesaving drugs that have increased their reach from 300,000 people to an incredible 1.2 million, almost the entire population. Ensuring that students have the necessary resources to succeed in school is crucial for their development. They can better focus on their education and have a more positive learning environment. This past Sunday, #Americares Free Clinics hosted its annual Backpack Drive, where over 50 dedicated child and adult volunteers packed 200 backpacks with much-needed school supplies. By giving children these helpful supplies, we’re not just supporting their education but also promoting their overall well-being!

I’m proud to take on this new role at InterAction, the largest alliance of U.S.-based international non-governmental organizations, at a time when it’s more important than ever for humanitarian organizations to work together. With more people displaced than ever before, conflict erupting around the world and extreme weather increasing in intensity, this kind of collaboration and collective power can make a real difference. And I look forward to more events like the InterAction Forum I attended recently, where Gayle E. Smith delivered amazing remarks reminding us all that we are stronger together and collectively we can make change and make the world a better place. I left the event feeling incredibly energized and inspired – from the speakers and the wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues, including Tom Hart , Michelle Nunn, Abby Maxman, Janti Soeripto and Tessie San Martin.
Meet InterAction's new Board Members! InterAction extends a heartfelt thanks to Sharif A., Dianne Calvi, Carol Jenkins, Koby Langley, Eskinder Negash, Michelle Nunn, and Michael J. Nyenhuis for their service to InterAction. A special thanks goes out to Abby Maxman, our outgoing Board Chair, for her steadfast commitment to InterAction over six years. We look forward to their continued engagement as leaders in our NGO community. As we said goodbye to these eight outstanding leaders, we were excited to announce three Board Members who have transitioned to leadership positions—Janti Soeripto, President and CEO of Save the Children US, was elected Board Chair; Christine Squires, President and CEO of Americares, was elected Vice-Chair; and Rabih Torbay, President and CEO of Project HOPE, was elected Treasurer.
