Manufacturers are struggling with a talent shortage. Did you know that the manufacturing workforce is projected to grow by just 0.31% between now and 2030? That spells trouble for manufacturers. There will be an awful lot of jobs unfilled as a result. We’ll likely see bidding wars between businesses. Employees benefit because it’s an employee's market, and often money talks. However, in our experience, money is not the only thing that matters to people. We've heard many stories of employees leaving a company for higher pay elsewhere. Do you know what they miss often? They miss their co-workers, their boss, and the healthy environment they enjoyed. Often, manufacturers fail to leverage the power of culture to create that environment. As manufacturers navigate this talent shortage, culture will likely be a more significant factor moving forward. Right now, many American manufacturers need more employees. And it's not easy to find those people! But here's a secret: if these companies make their workplaces engaging and fun, more people will want to work there! Imagine going to work every day and feeling excited about it. That's what these companies want to make happen for their employees. Because when people feel good about their jobs, they do better work! Most people like jobs where they can be challenged and creative. So, if manufacturers make their workplaces like that, they'll win the battle to keep their employees happy. See, it's not just about paying them money. It's about giving them good benefits, chances to grow, good leaders, and being treated well. And here's the thing: there are lots of other manufacturers out there trying to get these same workers. So, if your company makes its workplace engaging, you'll be the one getting all the good people! To win this battle, Ask yourself: Are we a destination employer, where everyone wants to work? Or are we just a paycheck to them, a stepping stone towards bigger and better things? Frankly, that answer is entirely up to you. If your company is awesome, you'll find it easy to get great workers. But if it's not, it'll be really hard. So, what kind of company do you want to be? Think about it! Remember: Engaged employees mean higher productivity, fewer injuries, fewer mistakes, and, of course, higher profits. How can we improve?
