Please remember why we celebrate this Memorial Day holiday. It is to honor the brave men and women who have given the highest sacrifice for our freedom while in the service to the United States of America. They gave their lives defending our Nation, and for that we owe them a debt of gratitude that we can never repay. Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Colin Powell once reminded us to “not hasten through Memorial Day. Take the time to remember the good souls whose memories are a blessing to you and your family. Take your children to our memorial parks and monuments. Teach them the values that lend meaning to our lives and to the life of our nation. Above all, take the time to honor our fellow Americans who have given their last full measure of devotion to our country and for the freedoms we cherish.” Without their heroic commitment and actions, we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today in our great Republic.
